What radiation is this supposed to protect you from? If it gets stopped by such this fabric, it should be stopped by clothes anyway.

The description leaves the reader with the dangerous impression that it is somehow against "radioactivity in Tokyo", which is a little naughty. It is NOT explaining how to wear protective clothing, either.

Tepco was explaining at a news conference 1) how much this outfit costs, 2) what the workers do with it when it has been worn once, and 3) how they have a growing mountain of such low-radiation used clothing. (The mask can be re-used)

@goddog - it's nothing to do with Softbank - It's the Tyvek Safety Logo, made by Dupont.

DuPont themselves write it that it is protective against particulate matter, down to less than 1 micron size, but it has no protective effect against beta, gamma or neutron radiation.

This picture plus some guy posted a comment "Gabaramasho!!" in a thread about tourism in Japan after the Quake / Tsunami ? Fukushima Radiation problems just made me laugh so hard.

It would probably be more accurate to say "protective clothing for radioactive dust". I'm still amazed by pictures of people being put into such suits with exposed skin on their heads, though.

I would love to wear this and go around the Yamanote line for hours... maybe put a Superman sticker on my chest and the JT url on my back.

These suits are available online from numerous suppliers for prices as low as $6.95 US if you buy a case of 24. Look for them in Shibuya soon (probably in the 20,000 Yen or more range!) Maybe DuPont will offer them in designer colors just for the Japanese market. I've ordered mine for Halloween this year, complete with the facemask ventilator, booties, and gloves. Of course by October I might need one for REAL is TEPCO is still in charge of things!

I believe the two women are actually TEPCO staff, making enquiries as to how to purchase some safety gear. The plastic shopping bags wore out.

SO is this is the future to what people, especially young women, will be wearing in Japan? I thought Japanese women were going for various forms of dress, to attract males, rather then all wearing a said uniform bar one for school.

Probably it is protection from it is radioactive a dust, but I don't see weight of lead for protection against radioactive radiation.
