Japan has to realize that China is the boss now. No more being the Sick Man of Asia. China can do what she wants, whenever she wants. China controls most of Japan's debt. China will also buy the debts of many European countries.

For 100 years it was the worst time to be Chinese. China's territories were being taken and there was nothing China to do about it except hold rallies. Which is what the Japanese are doing now. The tables have turned indeed.

Funny how these stories bring in all sorts of new commenters from China and Korea. They picked up the story on google and signed up to make the world think this is big news.

You know what? This demonstration was not in the news or the morning paper. I googled about it in Japanese, and the biggest story was a story about it not being covered by the media here. It means either the Japanese don't care about the demonstration or the media is taking a lesson from China and not running news that could be controversial.

I watched this yesterday. The hippy girl was one of only a very few women. She was indeed a bizarre addition.It was truly scary to see the hate and anger and pure unalderated stupidity of the demonstrators and to read their signs, hear their crazy chants and see their WW2 flags.Now I can easily see how and why that war started and dragged on. That is why I am scared. The media would have been told not to cover it because the Japanese government is terrified that the Chinese will not lend them money when hey need to beg for it again next month

All protests and still America's protectorate makes Japan a nation with little international influence.

It's amazing how thick these fools are. They have no idea how much Japan 'needs' a solid bilateral relationship with China or the amount of economic hurt China can inflict on Japan. This dispute is not about the islands themselves, but about the natural resources to be found in the surrounding oceans, but if Japan continues to abstain on this issue the hardship created by a bad relationship with China with far outweigh any profit from the resources around these two rocks in the 'China' Sea.

Yeah like China can afford to lose Japan as a Buyer for their products or as an employer for thousands of Chinese in factories, etc and it won't affect their economy and lifes losing one of their biggest clients and business partners/investors.

Look at the rare earth metals, Japan signed contracts with new suppliers already and why do you think China resumed exports. Because the companies were whining we are loosing money and jobs if it the ban continues.

Chinese and Japanese economies are intertwined and BOTH need each other that is the reality.

All this political and nationlistic posturing is just that people puffing up their chests to feel important but at the end of the day everybody still needs a job and earn an income.

People also still want to visit and shop in China and Japan.

Not only that, but Japan that is a nation that is falling and behind at almost every level at a very alarming rate. If Japan wants to be a major player in the world standing, they need to start with the politicians first. The government is a lame duck do nothing entity that at the moment and the way it looks, in the near future, it will continue to be so in which case, it will just have to accept that there is a new Sheriff in town, like it or not. Japan can huff and puff all it wants, China will just laugh and wave it off like you would an insignificant fly.

From the looks of this picture, none of these people were alive to commit atrocities during the first half of the 20th Century. Therefore, they have nothing to apologize for. The same can't be said of the Chinese leadership who, during their youth, rampaged through China beating teachers and other "class enemies" during the Cultural Revolution.

Let's be honest. Why are Chinese upset? They let Europeans take over their country, and then that little country to the East (Japan) walked in and took over. This drove a deep nail into their pride. And what we all know, it wasn't China but Japan who first defeated a western army (Russia), giving hope to all the people of Asia. Japan never let itself be taken over by another country! That is what Chinese don't like. China still feels shame.

I understand that Beijing is in damage control trying to calm down other nations joining to this demonstration. There have been uprising Anti China Gloval movement including France, Britain and other European countries, and of course USA! Watch out China!!

On both sides, nationalism is a smoke screen to hide the truth that each government exploits her own people through taxation and confiscation, etc. Nationalism can be okay, if we are freed from statism, because statism is the evil enemy for us all. My impression from what I hear from friends in China is that the public is mostly ignoring the whole issue. The Japanese supermarket Ito Yokado in North Beijing is still crowded, and the Japanese pavillion at the Shanghai Expo still has a waiting time of 6 hours.

Organized protest in Japan can be a very strange creature. Who knows how many of the "protester" were simply day laborers or freeters? All the flags are the same. Signs look pretty much alike. Who is really behind this march?

way to many people have the wrong idea. its NOT Nationalism, most people were not even thinking of this until the inccident. Just like Tibet low & behold It completely STOPPED once the Olympics started & Over. NO talks or protests of it now. this will soon also fade out. Did the protests everywhere stopped the US and the 'coalition' from the shockandawe show in Iraq and Afghanistan? Nope. That just proves my point. China is not the only one doing it. There are a few textbook cases in current news. When a power is rising, it'll feel it can do whatever it wants. And it will. And remember China had a good few milleniums and a couple hundred sh!tty years. They were at the top once before in this part of the world anyways, and they want that spot once again. If only the Japanese had a time machine to go back in time and instead of invading China, they worked with China to kick out the Western imperialists which was the main Chinese goal at that time. Let's think about that, an Asian country handed unequal treaties, living on the fear and threat of invasion and colonization by far superior forces, humiliated by the west, quickly industrializes and becomes "one" of the world's strong nations. But never really let's go of memory of being humiliated and when economically and militarily strong enough the young officers of the 1930s start influencing overall strategy as well as foreign policy. All this leads to aggression, an agenda to expand her borders and evict any foreign power thatr stands in the way of regional dominance. And we all know how that ended up.
