People take photos of a banner showing images of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Russian President Vladimir Putin at Senzaki Station in Nagato, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Wednesday, a day before their summit meeting. The words on top read, "A new start from here in Nagato."

What do the words on the bottom read? Going on the font size the meaning is rather clear. Japan is twice as important as Russia.

The photo of the begging Akita was more apt.

I am glad at least some people are promoting cooperation, not dilution of both relations and common values.

(google translate) Сердце сердцу весть подаёт / heart heart submits news.
Something like "heart their-heart news/message submits" = "heart to heart submits the message" so maybe it means something like 'My heart to your heart sends the news (that I like you)'.
Google translates the "подаёт" in the proverb as "submits", and the "подает" in the sign as "delivers".

Not often we see a smile on Putin's face! Abe looking more Italian than Berlusconi on this one.

or Abe getting spanked by Putin, because that's exactly what is going to happen during that meeting. Mark my words. That idiot should have listened to Obama. If a master politician like Obama couldn't best Putin, Abe meeting alone with him is just going to get him spanked.

Forgot quite a few wrinkles on Abe's chops. Ah, well... suppose it's supposed to be cute, not at all serious.
