Those masks and jabs are doing a great job then, aren't they?
TokyoLiving
No genius, masks and vaccines work, if people don't take protective measures it's useless..
Algernon LaCroix
If they were working so well, why are numbers going up and hospital bed occupancy is rising?
Elvis is here
I can guess why.
Imagine how bad things would be if you didn't wear a mask or was not vaccinated. There would be no hospital beds in the first place
shudder...

And for good measure
I wonder what the antivaxxers are trying to achieve now by repeating the same thing they've always said. An apology? If the vax programme failed, why is the world generally back to normal? The antivaxxers are reaping the benefits of the extensive "failed" vaccination program. They should be grateful.

It says "Do Not Enter".

It's less dangerous than the flu. Criticism of the public health policy failures is not anti-vax shenanigans, it's a legitimate debate. Also, the argument of "how bad would it be if we didn't wear masks and take the new mRNA jab!" is ridiculous and impossible to prove. The virus mutates so quickly that the vaccine can't even keep up. Which is good indicator that vaxxing everyone might not have been such a good idea if herd immunity was ever a goal.

My point is if it weren't for vaccines and masks we would be scr@wd. Accept it.

Love all of the illumination sites around Japan at this time of year.

This is telling photo. Anything on this topic is only about keeping the public in fear so they obey (continue to).
The whole actual covid thing is pretty boring and not really important in itself I wish the media would just cut the government force fed re-broadcasting by wrapping up coverage of it and it would just disappear.
A lot of more important topics get that treatment and folks just go along with it.
El Rata
Who cares about that still? When are we moving on in Asia? The rest of the world seems to have moved on already.
'I got covid 10 times but I'm grateful to Pfizer and my mask otherwise I would be much worse' Is there a different script? I mean a believable one.
tora
10 times??

Even China has finally moved on. The UK won't even be publishing Covid figures any more next year. It's just part of the endemic bug roster with all the others. If you need more hospital beds, spend some public money on them instead of buying so many F35s. How many years does it take the JP government to expand healthcare capacity?
Garthgoyle
Virus is still here, killing some folks, making some of us sick.
The anti masks, anti vaccine, anti everything, what's your point on taking stuff politically? The result is the same; we're stuck with this.
I wonder too. In Japan most people wear a mask and most are vaccinated. Yet, here we are with cases still going up.
Tom San
Osaka is danger.

My mask and jab working fine for me.
I hate whiners.

wave #8 with record deaths. Meanwhile the clueless Japanese govt are going with jab #5, ignoring the recent studies that prove each successive shot increases your chance of getting covid. its a never-ending cycle of failure.
“The association of increased risk of COVID-19 with higher numbers of prior vaccine doses in our study, was unexpected.”
https://sbynews.com/2022/12/24/unexpected-mrna-vaccines-increase-risk-of-contracting-covid-19-each-booster-shot-raises-risk-even-more-in-study-of-51000-cleveland-clinic-workers/

We have masks. We have used gallons of alcohol. We have the jabs. We've sequestered And we still COVID-19 and an emergency on our laps. What haven't we done right?
I am at a loss. What more can we do?
My wife and I have followed all procedures: sanitation, eating at home, the jabs, and sequestering except when shopping and going directly to work by car. All our travel is by car--no public transport. We haven't gotten COVID-19. Are we just lucky?
I'll make a guess. Public transport is likely a culprit. On trains and buses people crammed together like canned sardines. Forgetting any social distance. Cheap eateries where people crammed elbow to elbow is a very likely culprits: cramming and mask removal.
If anyone wants to put all the blame on foreigners, let us have the statistics. How many foreigners living or visiting Japan have brought COVID-19 from abroad or caught is in Japan.

It is perfectly valid to ignore imaingary studies that do not actually exist. One great way to know when your "source" is trying to misrepresent a study is because they hide the reference for it, so you can't see how the authors of the study explicitly contradicts the false conclusion being used to mislead.
As the authors say
This is a perfectly valid reasoning, since people that are at a higher risk are also more likely to look for protection from vaccines, like health care workers that deal with patients every day and that obviously will be a significative part of the employees of a clinic.
Another thing your source is trying to hide is that vaccines have demonstrated efficacy protecting from complications, severe disease and death, which means they have demonstrated to increase the immunity against the disease, even if infection by itself was higher on the vaccinated people because of vaccination (the study can't say this because of its desing) that would make this even much more important, because people would be at a lower risk of health problems even if they were more likely to be infected.
virusrex
No, it is not, if covid is causing more deaths than the flu is causing even cases this means influenza is a much less dangerous disease, precisely because it can be prevented much more easily by the same measures.
Health care professionals, people that understand the risks that come from the disease, those with vulnerabilities and their friends and family, those that have problems with measures becoming more strict, etc.
That is what Omicron does, no measure guarantees full protection, and even if 1% of the people were not following properly the measures that would still mean 200,000 people are at elevated risk of infection.
Raw Beer
I believe we would be better off if we didn't mass vaccinate the public.
virusrex
The scientific evidence of the very positive effect of vaccines clearly demonstrate this personal belief is wrong.
Lord Dartmouth
My mask and jab are working fine for me. Thanks to them, I am alive now. Without them I would either be dead or severely debilitated. Why can't people understand this simple logic? It is clear that Japan has basically avoided infections and death so far thanks to the heroic mask-wearing, even outdoors.
master
Your argument; "the study is incorrect or misinterpreted!"
Mine : Wave #8 and record deaths after the majority of adults are now on jab #5
Its over.
Its just a matter of time until the govt does its 180.
(during which this character will insist he called for it)
virusrex
No, the argument is that the presentation of the study in your source (which was not the study) is incorrect and it chooses to hide information that disprove the claim made.
Yet the fatality rate per case is much lower now and vaccinated people have lower rates of hospitalizations and deaths, which clearly defeat your claim that vaccines do not protect the people.
You have argued nothing against this well supported fact that refutes your claim, by saying "it is over" does this mean you give up and recognize the argument proves the opposite of what you want to believe?
Raw Beer
because the current variant is much milder than the earlier ones.
No, not the overall rate of hospitaliztion and death; those are higher for the vaccinated.
ian
Can you show the numbers for the deaths raw beer?
ian
What would be the point of clinging to your beliefs if they're not supported by data?
Bob Fosse
No.
