Gokai,
I would agree you are TECHNICALLY correct, but many many still do refer to the centre by the ole slang name to this day, I use both depending on the situation as I know that shonen yokocho doesn't sit well with some :)

Are you sure? I thought they renamed shonben yokocho (piss alley) to omoide yokocho (memory lane). I don’t think they’re different. But I think you grew up in Tokyo so you’d maybe know better than me.

@GW Shonben Yokocho refers to the road next to the tracks. Omoide no Yokocho is the road in the middle of the block.

Yeah been going there for almost 30yrs, also known as shonben yokocho, I love yatai laden alleys!

This is Omoi-de no Yokocho (思い出の横丁 - Memory Lane) next to the tracks just to the north-west of Shinjuku Station. It hasn't changed in decades. GO! There is a veriety of food in all the shops. It is more tourist friendly now, with several shops having English menus or English/Chinese speaking staff.

Actually, restaurants is correct.

Eating place or establishments, not restaurants.

These were and still are great places in many areas. Not in Shinjuku though, where they have become tourist traps for the selfie crowd.

Er... I thought this would be about a juicy culinary dispute
