Yachtsman Minoru Saito, 77, celebrates at Minato Mirai Pukari Pier in Yokohama on Saturday after completing his record 8th solo circumnavigation. His 56-foot sailboat, Nicole BMW Shuten-dohji III, put more than 53,000 kilometers under her keel in a drama-filled voyage that started in October 2008.

Welcome home and good Job.

Great achievement on a big boat considering he did it solo. But why mention the distance he sailed in kilometers and not in nautical miles?

Fantastic accomplishment. It's too bad thouugh that he had to name his vessel after his corporate sponsors. Corporate (re)naming of sports staudiums/arenas is bad enough but I draw the line at corporate naming of a boat/ship/vessel. I mean what a mess of a name: Nicole BMW Shuten-dohji III. It has no soul and there's nothing romantic about it.

@USNinJapan LOL I didn't even notice that until I read your comment. Pretty funny. I agree but what can you do though ? There wouldn't be any reason for corporations to sponsor someone like him unless they name the shipt after them.

It reminded me of the movie 太平洋ひとりぼっち (Alone Across the Pacific ) starring Ishihara Yujiro (1934-1987) , brother of the 78 year old Tokyo Governor.

Welcome home Saito san!! You are an inspiration to us all.
It would be great if the networks could somehow skip airing [at least] one of those silly variety shows and replace it with a documentary of your achievements.
