You're welcome. A few guys got irradiated a while back when the water spilled on them through a valve, or they stepped in a ditch under a leaking valve. But I don't remember the details, also the tanks are probably not homogenous in terms of contents. They could have gotten hit with water with the harder stuff, or with more tritium in it.

I know turbot. Thanks for backing me up. So many people think the stored water is super contaminated. It is not and can be dumped. Removing the Tritium is tough.

If you watched the clock hands closely at night you could see the scintillation.

Apparently it's not even non-radioactive, they just got the more-toxic stuff like Strontium-90 filtered out of a lot of it. But it's a lot harder to get the tritium out, so they didn't.

Tritium is expensive, but maybe the levels in the tanks are too low to profit from. Or if they did try, dumping a lot on the market might make it cheap, and then unprofitable over the term of the attempt to profit from it.

That type of protective clothing will only stop alpha and some beta particles from landing on the skin or being breathed-in. It's not designed to block radiation emissions.

Entombment has to be redone every 25 years or so due to sinking I read.

This not a situation where entombing works.

Chernobyl's tomb is falling apart and needs to be redone.

Right no more worried about the increased radiation around a reactor in the New York area.

Why hasn't the plant been entombed already?

Entombment is the only "clean up effort" worth doing by TEPCO in a situation such as this....

I think that picture says all about TEPCO and why nuclear should be phased for renewal and new technology which does not pollute your ground for centuries.

Since 2012 Nobuteru Ishihara was Minister of Nuclear Crisis which is now renamed as nuclear preparedness... He and JAEA should have done better with this incident... It is truly shameful to not have educated the public and in some cases themselves about the ramifications of allowing nuclear energy to flow unabated into the environment... It is truly ugly...

Progress reports from TEPCO have been suspiciously quiet over the past few months. How many thousand of these storage tanks do they'd have now? How are their plans going for disposing of it all? How's their progress with removing the fuel rods? Is no news good news? Or, is no news no news?

let it be said, during the initial leaks there were many photo's and of those by media but yet none were dressed up in protective suits and these type of masks, but rather the normal paper masks. Also the rad level was raised by the DPJ so that many of those affected would not challenge nor pose any further claims to rad exposure. Shame on us for allowing this to happen in Japan.
