Roppongi clean-up

Members of the Group for Cleaning Up Roppongi marked their 500th outing on Oct 10. The group, which consists of volunteers from local businesses and community associations, was launched in December of 1996. The group cleans up the streets of Roppongi for one hour from 8 p.m. every Friday. So far, some 11,000 volunteers have participated in clean-up activities.

What a great thing to see! However, it's a shame it has to be done by volunteers. Now, if we could only get them to start cleaning the beaches too I would be happy.

Hope municipality cleaning staff is not taking undue advantage of volunteers activities. (few were caught playing pachinko or doing parttime job elsewhere).

Now, they seem happy and proud of the longevity of their group, so how can we make sure that their group maintains purpose?

the main problem is that people need to be educated!

Not dumping cigarette butts, lunch boxes, etc everywhere.

As long as there will be people cleaning, there will someone to dump whatever in the streets.

"Hey! Who cares? They are cleaning anyways..."

nisegaijin - If I see you puke on my street, you can be sure you'll be cleaning it up! Unless, of course, you can prove you have a cold wheels ha ha ha

Yeah, thanks guys. Now I don't feel nearly as bad throwing my trash on the street knowing someone's going to pick it up for me.

shuuu - Get serious, no one believes you ever felt bad about throwing your trash on the street. If I see you throw trash on my street, I guarantee you'll be picking it up.

Sarge: "If I see you throw trash on my street, I guarantee you'll be picking it up."

Pfft.

It was sarcasm.

shuuu - You have a bad attitude. It needs to be adjusted.

At best, you're ridiculing the good people ( including me ) who volunteer to clean up the streets. You should apologize.

The beaches are atrocious. But why are private citizens cleaning up public spaces?

OK: I'm sorry you cannot appreciate sarcasm and take things posted on the internet so personally.
