What a great thing to see! However, it's a shame it has to be done by volunteers. Now, if we could only get them to start cleaning the beaches too I would be happy.

Hope municipality cleaning staff is not taking undue advantage of volunteers activities. (few were caught playing pachinko or doing parttime job elsewhere).

Now, they seem happy and proud of the longevity of their group, so how can we make sure that their group maintains purpose?

the main problem is that people need to be educated!

Not dumping cigarette butts, lunch boxes, etc everywhere.

As long as there will be people cleaning, there will someone to dump whatever in the streets.

"Hey! Who cares? They are cleaning anyways..."

shuuu - Get serious, no one believes you ever felt bad about throwing your trash on the street. If I see you throw trash on my street, I guarantee you'll be picking it up.

The beaches are atrocious. But why are private citizens cleaning up public spaces?
