Runaround

Model Moe Oshikiri, center, and former major league baseball player Tsuyoshi Shinjo, right, take part in a marathon event at Tokyo Midtown on Monday morning as part of mobile carrier KDDI au's "Green Road Project." Olympic marathon silver medalist Yuko Arimori also attended the event in which 50 runners participated. KDDI has launched the project through which au users can donate 1 yen for each 1 kilometer they walk or run, after downloading the company’s online service “au Smart Sports Run&Walk.” The money raised will be used to buy seeds of bitter gourd and morning glory to distribute for free at au shops as part of its greening project. KDDI said that 2.7 million yen has been raised since the project's launch in February.

If I was running in this race, I suspect I'd be panting and sweating fairly early on. I'm very glad to see Moe's encouraging Morning Glory in Japan. My wife is always pleased to see it sprouting.

Why is Shinjo always referred to as "a former major league player" on this website?

If I remember correctly, he had 3 disappointing years in MBL and about 12 or 13 great years in Japan.

Huh? He was a mediocre player in both Japan and the US. Check the records. He is famous here because he was "different" and engaging with the fans, not because of his skills. I'm sure the "former MLB" label is added because the assumption on english websites would be that people did not follow Japan baseball. I also guess that your label of Shinjo's MLB years as "disappointing" are a reflection of him having to return to Japan. In reality he probably outperformed a lot of expectations for a player of his caliber in the US.

Love bitter gourd and like morning glory if it grows in someone else's property far away from mine. Bitter gourd is my favorite vegetable, the more bitter the better, it goes very well with meat and can do wonder to your stomach.

JT Editor - Not another Shinjo photo!!!!!! There's in an amazing tool in photo editing called crop. You could have just cropped the photo focusing on Moe who looks fab!

Bogi - Not sure. Maybe failing in America is seen as being a better feat than being a success in Japan.

Looks like everybody in Japan is a model or model wanna be without regards to looks. I have lots of models in my China cabinet.

I bet this is one of those 5000 meter "marathons". In Japan, any event that involves running more than 3 feet is called a marathon for some reason. Oshikiri is in good form; her knees look just fine to me.

I can't see her knees here. She looks good in this picture without all the make up. Can't believe how Shinjo looks, he looks...normal.

No comments about Moe's knees yet.

I always thought he was a plastic, waxed cyborg!

He looks positively normal in this shot.
