Yeah not too shabby. Shame about the concrete walls that make this artifical river though. But the place goes down a treat for those with concrete hearts and artificial personalities.
What's to understand? Just imbibe in amber liquid refreshments, look up an drink the beauty of it all at the same time. The cherry blossoms in turn, will look down at us all and perhaps say to each other; ' Why do we show our loveliness to these drunks, what a waste!"
Ahhhh...
nutsagain -- very funny.
Unfortunately, with last night's and today's rain in Tokyo, if you didn't get in your viewing over the weekend, there won't be much left to see.
Real shame that the weather for the peak-viewing weekend pretty much sucked.
Only the Japanese can truly appreciate cherry blossoms, the four seasons and wabi-sabi. Don't even bother trying if you are not a true Japanese - you will look like an elephant in a pink tu-tu trying to ballet dance.
I agree with green tea. People from your country are incapable of understanding the beauty of our cherry blossoms, but please dump your cash as you walk by (don't stop) and please speak to us in English, even if we Japanese are incapable of understanding that. Mind you, we Japanese can't appreciate the blossoms at all, as we are incapable of holding down more than two beers (sorry we're missing the necessary enzyme). So excuse me while we take a nap or go home early, and watch out for our ultrathin stripes of overpriced beef laying in harmony with our train steps and platforms.
there are cherry trees all over the world, not just in Japan. In fact, it is even common that in these places, those trees produce cherries, not just flowers (surprise!). Apart from that, there are two kind of trees with blossoms even nicer than the cherry tree: the almond tree and the orange tree, and both are far more fragrant than the J-cherry trees. As far I've seen, hana-mi is basically eating and drinking outside in the very early spring days, with friends or family. Well, that can also be found anywhere else in the world! The difference is that BBQ here are tiny-mini and parks are infested of people...

If that is so then I guess we should close the Louvre in Paris down to all Japanese, because clearly you would have to be a Parisan or at least from the West to appreciate the glorious art contained therein. It would be like a Otaku looking at the Venus d'milo and thinking it was the ultimate fantasy doll.
Cherry blossoms "were" (that would be in italics if this were a real website) in full bloom in Naka-meguro, and those that survived the rain today will be knocked over by the strong winds tomorrow, along with a few similarly fragile stick-legged same-bag loving bambies trying to run to the station.
in full bloom surrounded by concrete ugliness. I dont get it? hanami parties are useless. I would rather head down to the meguro tavern for roast pork with apple sauce, roast lamb with mint sauce, roast beef with gravy, roast potatos, mashed potatos, peas and brussel sprouts. 1500 Yen all you can eat.
Hanami parties are a reason to get drunk and eat outside with friends, family, co-workers, look at hot women (or men I guess), oh yeah, and look at the pretty flowers.

Don't go outside.
"Only the Japanese can truly appreciate cherry blossoms..."
That just can't be true. Tom Cruise appreciated bushido in "The Last Samurai".

"Cherry blossoms are in full bloom in Naka-maguro"
OK.

This can't be Naka-meguro. The sky never gets that blue in Naka-meguro.

Nice picture Alfie. I went to a wonderful festival on Saturday in Kinugasa and took several good pictures myself.

Nessie - two questions:
Are you going to kiss the fake blue sky in this great photo?
How the heck do you get an avatar?
Should I get one one? I know, that's 3 questions...franz1999
Another great image Alfie. Congratulations! Francesco

I resent that remark.
Why, in Bloomfield New Jersey there is a 'Cherry Blossom Festival' that can melt your heart and say 'I do' to your spouse once again.
Shumatsu_Samurai
Interesting that with such a nice picture so many people have only nasty things to say......

johnalex40, I'd wager green tea said that with tongue in cheek. I for one applaud the green tea for his incisive swipe.
