A Santa sighting in Nihombashi, Tokyo, on Wednesday night. Still too hot for reindeer, so Santa had to make do with a rickshaw.

Halloween season started in August I believe so second half of September is a perfect time to start Xmas celebration. :)

Maybe in a decade we'll see Christmas lights in March

This is pitiful. Whatever retailer came up with the idea would instantly be scratched off my list for Christmas shopping. I'd like to know, comparatively, how early such things as Children's Day, or any other more Japanese annual celebration, is promoted. Not three months, I can guarantee you that!

I remember my Japanese father dressing up as Santa on Christmas Eve . . . .

Or they will try the "Christmas in July" theme that is often used by groups of friends who only meet and see each other during the summer.
BTW, saw some Christmas decorations at Costco yesterday in the US. If I remember correctly, brick and mortar sales were down last season, so it will only get worse until Amazon.gov finally wins.

^ Christmas in July happens in Southern Hemisphere nations also.
