Santa's in town

Santa and Mrs Claus greet two sisters at ANA Crowne Plaza Osaka. Santa and Mrs Claus are available through Christmas day in the hotel’s lobby from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., and 5 p.m.-6:30 p.m. They will also be dropping by the hotel’s restaurants during lunch and dinner, and stopping by some guest rooms to make special gift deliveries.

I love the smiles, but Mrs. Claus looks scary.

Scary because "Wakarimasen...wakarete hoshii" !

Is there anywhere in Tokyo that does this??

"Where is my fried chicken, Colonel Sanders?"

I wonder how much this Xmas gig is paying these two, I'd imagine they'd be raking in 20K+ per hour? Santa is most likely one of those bogus "priests" in his regular job! lol

Cute. Nice pic for the season.

Title of this picture: "The temptation of Christian-ism, and it's agents." ... unless that Santa Claus is a Buddhist of course.

I hope that's all fake fur.

My favorite Japanese tradition- Christmas!

hellhound: The kids look scared!!!!

They say most men can only detect a handful of emotions from expressions. But I see "apprehension", not just simple fear.

Another common male trait is to think a person can feel only one emotion at a time, this despite their own self feeling many at one time. I would say these girls are feeling apprehension as well as the pleasure that comes in receiving attention, both at the same time.

Maybe one of the ladies can help me out here?

neverknow2 at 11:12 AM JST - 21st December My favorite Japanese tradition- Christmas!

I find these types of comments extremely annoying. Does your country "OWN" the rights to "Christmas" and how it should be celebrated?

Anyway, cute pic. I wonder where they found the 2 old white people for this? North Pole? lol

I think they are shy and uncomfortable to be with unkknown and foreign Santa too. But at least these kids smile which is nice! Some kids cry when they see me :(

Would it be shallow to say that I love Santa? :) Santa please come to me too with many presents! I will smile more cheerfully than these kids!

Sorry American Mike! Christmas is a Christian tradition celebrating the birth of Jesus. Last time I checked, Japan was not a Christian nation. It would be the same as American people celebrating 'O bon'.

On a serious note, it makes me sad that Japan has to copy the commercial side of what was traditionally a religious holiday.

I never knew about a Mrs. Claus. Since when does she exist?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Tommy Lee Jones found out Santa exists when he flew up to that kid's apartment to give him a present and found Santa standing on the veranda right after he'd put a present next to the kid's bed ( guess they didn't have a tree to put it under ). Santa didn't hang around to talk, though, ha ha ha!

"I hope that's all fake fur."

I have no problems with real fur ... as long as the label read " made of 100% genuine chihuahua".

What sort of a ridiculous comment is this? Santa Claus has nothing to do with Christianity. The only association is, December 25th is supposedly the birthday of Jesus.

Good to see the true spirit of Christmas being adopted in Japan. I hope the Sanata can speak Japanese.

Disillusioned: "What sort of a ridiculous comment is this? Santa Claus has nothing to do with Christianity. The only association is, December 25th is supposedly the birthday of Jesus."

Directly, not. But Santa has to do with Christmas, Christmas has to do with Christianism, so there.

"...Good to see the true spirit of Christmas being adopted in Japan..."

I didn't know the true spirit of Christmas was meant to be a mere huge commercial event!

Good to see the true spirit of Christmas being adopted in Japan.

Good? I think it's very bad. Japan would have been better off keeping it's own traditions and not copying everything from America.

Who cares about Japanese traditions. Santa isn't hurting anyone. Look at the smiles on these little girls. Christmas makes the kids happy. Isn't that a good thing? In the end they will still get their little envelopes of cash on 1/1 and get to eat that nasty 御節料理.

The kids look shy and excited. The older girl looks a bit uncomfortable because she's already been told there is no Santa... who to believe, the kid who sits next to you in class, or your own eyes?

I agree, combinibento. I think it's great that Christmas is really taking off here, it is a festival us gaijin can relate to and share with the locals, along with New Year's. Let's face it, us gaijin can't really get into the o-bon festivities! I am hoping Easter will take off in the next 5 or so years too - but that could take a while.

Yeah, because everyone knows it's only America that celebrates Christmas.

Great pic for that time of the season...

I'm hoping that JT's New Year's resolution is to have all of the "babe" pics this size for the New Year...

Seriously, you need to stop digging that hole for yourself.

Yeah, because everyone knows it's only America that celebrates Christmas.

My mistake. Everyone here seems a little 'slow'. Those of you who aren't American and have been to or live in Japan, can see just how much the Japanese try to copy America. The point of christmas, was simply another example. Not trying to say America is the only country that celebrates christmas.

Every nation in the world with an economy celebrates, or at least knows Christmas is the time to give gifts.

And well, sorry to burst everyone's bubble here, but Christmas is not a Christian festival. Just like cheesy Valentine's Day, it's an "economic stimulus" (thanks for the term, President Obama!) activity passed off as a religious tradition. Imagine, that's 1 billion captive consumers, and the rest of the world joining in!

Whoever invented Christmas is a complete financial genius.

This explains the polar bears being on the endangered species list. Let's hope it a 'faux'

nightvision at 03:33 AM JST - 22nd December And well, sorry to burst everyone's bubble here, but Christmas is not a Christian festival.

Thank you!! Some common sense here for once.

neverknow2 at 02:00 PM JST - 21st December Sorry American Mike! Christmas is a Christian tradition celebrating the birth of Jesus. Last time I checked, Japan was not a Christian nation. It would be the same as American people celebrating 'O bon'.

Wrong. I'm sure you and your family associate Christmas with Christianity, but not everyone. For some, it's simply a time for celebrating with family, giving gifts, sharing time with loved ones. Simple logic dictates that only a small % of the planets popluation that celebrates Christmas actually associate it with Christianity. Look up the real history of Christmas on google.
