No ice for Japanese macaques?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Is there more than a concrete enclosure for these monkeys? That looks horribly depressing!

On my phone this picture comes up under the article about US elderly binge drinkers.

Monkeys need a pool there or someone puts electric fans there for them.

They don’t look like they’re “resting”. Looks like they’re on their last legs.

Reminds me of my kids; girl on the left, boy on the right.

Those poor macaques. Give em some shade or a pool...

Poor monkeys. They look awful. Give them a hose and a yard sprinkler at least. I don't think the JT content editor checked the format of the "Meat Guy" photograph in relationship to the photograph of the monkeys.

Never been to Ueno Zoo but looking at pictures, these monkies have both a pool and mountain enclosure to stay in the shade.

Ueno zoo is so depressing. I know zoos do a lot of conservation but can we not get them off the concrete ffs?

poor monkey.... need to deal with this problem..like giving ice or fan to make them cool

Ueno Zoo is indeed not great.  These macaques need an onsen.  Or a cool pool.

There's a lot to be depressed about with Ueno Zoo. On the plus side, the gorilla enclosure is decent and spacious.

So sad

Japan - if you imprison non humans for human amusement and greed - treat them humanely! These animals deserve better when conditions are harsh. I have come to realize that Japan treats wildlife and marine life like China - horribly!

Those macaques come from cool, shaded forests. If they're going to be stuck in a zoo, at least give them something similar to their natural environment.
