Can't Japanese have pink suitcases?

... much like how I can distinguish an Italian from a Dutchman or a Scotsman 90% of the time

Yeah, the the Dutchman wearing wooden shoes with a tulip clenched in his teeth and the Scotsman wearing no pants under his kilt.

Yeah, a mistake to have the adjective 'foreign' in the caption, but rampant stereotyping is a bigger mistake, despite its gossipy joyful convenience.

Luckily those two people can't hear some of the comments on JT above. I just hope that they can enjoy themselves and that the weather in Asakusa is a unseasonally balmy as it is in Kochi.

How do we know they're foreign, just out of curiosity? Maybe they're travelling from another prefecture.

If I may say, I would have guessed that they are Japanese. nice suitcase also.

Reckon both are Chinese ( bloke: no nonsense hairstyle, stern features, conservative fashion style, pretty much the same for the girl, both wearing comfie shoes), probably from the north east ;)

Pink suitcase to say "look, we are cool!".

@Gaikoku

Justifying your inability to distinguish races by framing the race as being "racist" for claiming their differences are real? Fresh.

I have no clue about internal physical features like intestine lengths of various races, but there are defining external features (both physical and fashion wise) that give off what race/culture one belongs to.

Being from Vancouver I can distinguish between a Japanese person and a HK person 90% of the time, much like how I can distinguish an Italian from a Dutchman or a Scotsman 90% of the time.

Looks like they are holding up and reading the emma they just bought. Same shoes. Definitely Polish.

I've got to disagree with you Smith. Sure there is a lot of overlap, and I'd bet no one in the world would be right 100% of the time. But I can differentiate Japanese people from Chinese with pretty good accuracy - by face alone. I'd say about 2/3 to 3/4 of the time, I will be right. With some people I'd be willing to gamble on it - I can look at them and be very certain they are Chinese or Japanese. With others, I'm not nearly as sure, and would not gamble on it.

You can tell they're Chinese by her SLR. They love them.

Complete and utter BS in terms of the physical. You cannot distinguish by a person's facial featuers and that has been proven time and again. And fashion is interchangable. Many, MANY young Japanese these days have taken to K-pop styles, and I have several young friends who are often asked if they are Korean, but are Japanese. Likewise I have Japanese friends who don't die their hair and are always asked if they are Chinese.

No, you cannot, at least not by face alone. You can by language (and even then you'd be wrong half the time as a lot of Canadians of Chinese/HK descent can speak Chinese fluently), by clothing styles sometimes (again, you'd be wrong half the time), and OCCASIONALLY by behaviour. The Dutchman and Scotsman are the same -- NO WAY you can tell the difference by facial features. By language, clothing... MAYBE.

As for the suitcase, I've seen Japanese take bigger ones on an overnight trip holding only the make-up for the next day, so that does not indicate 'foreigner' either.

How do we know they're foreign

Shizuo Kambayashi, the photographer says so.

Maybe the photographer heard them speaking? Gee, maybe he actually asked them where they were from.
