It seems like a 3rd class country. There are too many things made in Japan (in Korean cars, smartphones, machines,, etc) all over the world.

these sort of immature things, thankfully don't last very long

Sorry folks, Asahi is the number 1 selling beer in Korea and not going anywhere as long as Koreans drink alcohol like fish.

There is always China!

That's literally not possible. Unless they're talking strictly about whole made Japanese products/brand... you're going to have components to nearly all electronics that are either made by Japanese companies, developed by Japanese companies or manufactured by Japanese companies abroad. I used to work in the development side of vehicle manufacturing and you'd be hard pressed to find any automobile in the world that doesn't have some component part that hasn't passed through a Japanese company. One way or another you're going to put money in the pockets of a Japanese company. This won't really hurt them, if that's the goal.

If you're going back 80 years to seize assets from your biggest economic partner, you're going to get burned.

All this anti-Japanese political populism was going to end up in tears for Moon. Abe and Aso are no minions and they know it. Like it or not Japan are the 3rd or 4th most powerful economy in the world.

Only a fool would start seizing assets from a powerful neighbour they rely on, in order to satisfy their populist ideals.

Idiots.

40 years ago, SK was nothing but a poor developing nation.

Now they want to surpass Japan in any thing that makes them Second Boss in Asia, below China.

It is not challenging but rather bothering.

I’ve never liked Hecho en Korea stuff, now I won’t buy them. Samsung, etc. Whew, Korea just won’t grow up. Kind of like me. But I ain’t a country.

All this unification flag waving at Olympics time and getting brotherly with the kidnappers. Do you think Abe will just forget all that?

It comes to a point where the Japanese get the heavy clubs out. And their heavy clubs are heavier than most.

Fellow Koreans Chill out! You're still on white list.

Throw your tantrum when you are put on black list.

A notice calling for a boycott of Japanese-made products is displayed at a store in Seoul, South Korea

But...

The signs read: "We don't sell Japanese products."

So it's just stating that Japanese products aren't sold in the shop, as opposed to actually calling for a boycott?

once lived in South Korea, albeit many years ago, when the country was still emerging from poverty. There is much that is admirable and even charming about the Korean people--and much that is exasperating. Half a century ago, those Koreans who were adults during the era of Japanese rule had ambivalent feelings about Ilbon-saram. Ostensibly, they were anti-Japanese, but there was also a sometimes not-well-hidden nostalgia, especially among those who were given a good Japanese education...Japan is the one country that Koreans love to hate, even as they relentlessly imitate it...Of course, they're not terribly fond of any country besides their own, and if the peninsula is ever reunited, the Americans will surely be placed as #2 on the demon list...I've come to find it remarkable that there is not more anti-Korean sentiment in Japan. Instead, there seems to be ho-hum indifference, with only virtue-signaling intellectual types wallowing in guilt over the thirty-six years that Koreans (supposedly) languished under Japanese rule and only a few ultra-nationalist nutcases expressing strong antipathy...I wish the two countries could get along better, but when one side goes on recycling the same old grudges, decade after decade, all the other side can do is act with patience and restraint.

This is something you would never see here in Europe. For example, also now, while there's a huge political tension between Italian and French governments, you would never see in Italy callings for a boycott of French products in a supermarket. I am not even sure it would be legal.

Historical issues have always been a problem and Japan definitely crossed the line by moving this into the economic trade arena. Seems like Korea isn't escalating at this point. Will be interesting to see where this goes.

Time to impose a strict cap on the number of South Koreans entering Japan for tourism and business. Cut it to half the current numbers entering. There is no end to other tourists from friendly nations desperate to visit Japan. If SK want to boycott Japanese goods, then expect severe consequences.

It comes to a point where the Japanese get the heavy clubs out. And their heavy clubs are heavier than most.

@TigerTokyoDome , brilliantly argued. SK needs Japan. Japan can do without any trade or tourists from SK.

Keep standing up for Japan, PM Abe!!

It seems to me major companies should perfectly boycott the high tech materials first that Japan regulates the export of.

GOOD REACTION from Korea. Japan is getting too personal and not considering the serious life of others.
