Shibuya station area has changed so much. Lots of memories there growing up in the 80s and 90s, but now all the unique memorable places are gone, replaced with standard skyscrapers. The same is happening in Shinjuku, where I live. And maybe everywhere.

From this angle it looks truly hideous. No redeeming architectural features whatsoever.
I shall avoid.

I don't suppose city planners ever notice some places are already too crowded. I suppose they will build another boring Atre. Then they will fill it with places that are everywhere, chain restaurants, Uniqlo, Starbucks and so on. Such rebuilding around stations creates uniformity and kills character and destroys diversity.

I've lived here a decade... has Shibuya ever not been under construction? Also not a hater here, I way prefer Shibuya to Shinjuku, better vibe. People always complain about Shibuya station as well but I've never really had a problem, sure the 地下鉄 bit is weird but like... still better than Ikebukuro or Shinjuku station. Shibuya is great... just stay south of Meijijingu and you'll be solid. The construction isn't that bad.

That new skyscraper is pretty futuristic, especially at night.

Looks very cyberpunk from above. Love it.
