But what about the ENVIORNMENT?! Has it suddenly become OK to was electricity and supoer heat the earth?! How many polar bears is this killing? Where are Ishihara and Prince Charles...The Deli Lama?! HElp!!!!!!!!!!!!
marsnairb
this is a beautiful picture I would love to be there. as for polar bears they are doing just fine trust me.
rjd_jr
Nice picture.

Nice picture. Have to ask fatloser a question: Don't you understand romance trumps environmental concerns here in safety vibrant Japan? And
I'd love to trust you. Except for the disappearing ice and snow upon which the polar bears live (many are drowning), I think you're right: they're doing just fine.
Sarge
I agree with rjd jr.
fatloser: "The Deli Lama"

Did I spell Deli Lama wrong? Look at those people with their plastic shopping bags and fur-lining and all of those lights!! Sure, it's a pretty picture, but isn't destroying this kind of scene what Obama is all about? Change!! I see a Christmas with no lights, thieves and murders hiding in the dark testing stoking their knives and waiting for their half starved prey to wobble home from work!! Anyhow can't they wait until December to use these lights? Wouldn't that save the bears and make a pretty picture?

waah...kirei! kirei...!...:) oopss..sorry guys..i just trying to be kawaii...

It's WAY too early for this. Give me a break.

Again, why blue Christmas lights?
fatloser
I remain convinced that they belive the lights are blue. Just as the green traffic light is blue so are the stars in space! JamesT Kirk wasn't Japanese and the layer of pollution that protyects Tokyo leaves them to imagine what a star would look like...blue or brue is the best guess.
Otaru
This looks very nice. I want some of those LED's in my backyard.

Blue and green are interchangeable terms in English as well. Ever heard of "blue" grass? You don't really think Kentucky is covered by cerulean grass do you?
fatloser
I believe many things! But I am certain that thos lights are blue because the people in Japan have no idea what the stars look like. They have created an impenetrablke layer of pollution to protect them from space. It is only now that they have begun work on the sides. But blue or what those lights are warming the earth...NO..they are hastening the warming of the earth. They should be exinguished! Are there any blue lightson your fancy and expensive jets?? Hmmmmmmmm...what would happen if some sneak exchanged blue for green or green for blue??? Hmmmmmmm, what would happen to your very deadly and expensive toys then!!! What WOULD happen!!!!!!!!!!!

USN - What's wrong with the blue Christmas lights - they be pretty!
Helter_Skelter
Really nice picture.
Jigg88
i'd choose blue christmas lights over red anytime

Maybe in the big cities (can't say I remember seeing that many stars in London either...), but out here in the sticks is also Japan, and the stars here are breathtaking. A bit like living in a planetarium, but without the lines joining up the constellations. With only a very low-resolution telescope we can see the moons of Jupiter and its stripes, and the rings of Saturn, crisp and clear. Winter is the season for stargazing...wish it wasn't so darned cold at night!
Isn't the reason for the blue lights that some Japanese inventor patented a blue LED recently?
memyselfI
It's toooo blue !!!!! What happened to green, red, white traditional colors of Christmas ??? Kawaii jah nai yo !!!!
Altria
The lights are blue in support of Obama and because that dude at Nichia created the world's first blue LED.

Cleo:
Almost. Probably the point is that WHITE LED are more expensive than blue LED.
marsnairb
The blue ligts are very nice, better than the stupid white lights. also for those who buy into the doomsayers the polar bears are not drowning and the ice is not melting.

Very nice, looks like the stage of one of those j-pop variety shows.

"through Dec. 25"
Wow, one day after Christmas ends in Japan!

Let's hope they're not all daisy chained or it's going to be a headache figuring out which of the 470,000 lights is broken.

Look's romantic. However, I wonder how much electricity is being used for this. As far as the global warming comments...who cares???? Nature puts out far much more emissions that is the real cause of global warming (geological, chemical, and physical) a "naturally" occuring cycle that happens from time to time.

Let's make a calculation. 1 LED usually has an average current of 20mA and a voltage in the order of 2V this means 40mW (Milliwatt).
Then 1000 LED are 40 Watt.
Then 470000 LED are 18800 Watt. This is half the power of the engine of a K-car in Japan.
Or in other words, all these 470000 LED consume the same amount of power like one idling Taxi waiting on the street for a passenger.
