How ironic that the disaster control center wasn't located or built to withstand a tsunami. :(

Hind sight is 20/20 guys.

I hope we never see a simillar event in our life times, i think japan has suffered and endured far more than any nation should have to go through from nature, lets hope some good fortune comes japan's way soon.

Im sorry but l dont get these hindsight comments, the fact is earthquakes and tsunami's are a part of Japanese culture they have a long history of suffering from them so l honestly believe hindsight has nothing to do with it rather a lack of foresight on the part of government for allowing towns, cities and critical infrastructure such as NPP's to be built as they where and where they where. All we can hope is that they learn from this dreadful event and better plan for the future.

Please take note of the tsunami warnings that were written in stone many moons ago in many coastal areas of Japan and you'll not see images like the above again.

This is the disaster control center where heroine Miki Endo worked. Miki Endo was a 25 year-old public worker who worked in the Crisis Management Dept. of the city of Minami Sanriku, one of the worst-hit cities in the Miyagi prefecture - of its 17,000 inhabitants, 10,000 perished and only 7,000 or so survived the tsunami.

Many of those 7,000 that survived escaped death because of Miki Endo’s broadcast. Mainichi Shimbun reports that Miki Endo did not let go of her microphone, even during the very moment the black waves of the tsunami engulfed the city, so that every last villager could hear her warning call. One co-worker told Miki’s mother, that he saw Miki being swept away by the tsunami wave. Her body was discovered in May. (from the internet)

@Spidapig24 When was the last time we had an earthquake that was bigger than 9.0 ? That was the biggest one we ever had in more than 1000 years. Are you saying people should go back that far and prepare for every single possibility natural disaster ? Don't be ridiculous. It's easy to say anything after the fact

Agreed Suzuki-san. People never learn from the past. We only have to look at it to see that, and every country in the world is the same in this regard. People will always move back into areas like this in the hope that it just won't happen to them. Governments can't stop people from living where they always have, but they should stop companies from rigging their own reports and profiting from such lies, as TEPCO has.

Dont be ridiculous you say, its easy to say it after the fact you say. Well here some fact for you, Japan has had 195 recorded events of tsunamis, Japan has had 44 earthquakes of greater than 6.6 magnitude, 29 of which have happened since 1900 (19 since 2000). Another fact earthquakes over 6 on the Richter scale at sea can produce a tsunami.

So me being ridiculous! No not really just stating the obvious. Easy to say after the fact! Yes true but which of the 195 tsunamis, or 44 large earthquakes are you refering to as the fact. And when was the last time Japan had a earthquake large than 9.0? A long long time ago, your point? As l have said an earthquake doesnt need to be 9.0 to produce a tsunami it can be a 6 and produce on (as has happened in Japan before). So your point exactly?
