The International Space Station is seen in silhouette as it travels across the face of the sun on Sunday, as seen from Shenandoah National Park, in Front Royal, Va. On board are NASA astronauts Scott Kelly and Kjell Lindgren; Russian cosmonauts Gennady Padalka, Mikhail Kornienko, Oleg Kononenko, Sergey Volkov; Japanese astronaut Kimiya Yui; Danish astronaut Andreas Mogensen and Kazakhstan cosmonaut Aidyn Aimbetov.

You can see regular pictures of the sun on the SOHO website. Sunspots are observed because of the impact they have on temperature on Earth and because of the fact they are related to geomagnetic storms. Last time I checked, there were 3 small spots, marked as 2409, 2411, 2412

The draw of space exploration is one of the few things that dampens my cynicism and gives me hope for the future of our species.
Beautiful picture.

I would rather buy another F-35 that doesn't work as advertised than spending money on "scientific research".

It's nice the Russians and Americans are getting along in orbit.
