Actress Koyuki and actor Toshiaki Karasawa officiate at the light-up ceremony for the "Starlight Garden" display at Tokyo Midtown on Thursday night. Midtown's spectacular illumination displays have been so popular in the past, especially on Christmas eve, that authorities sometimes have to limit the numbers of people coming to view the scene at certain times. Karasawa, 52, and Koyuki, 38, are starring in the film, "Sugihara Chiune," about the Japanese diplomat, sometimes referred to as the the Schindler of Japan, and his life leading up to and after his decision to issue over 2,000 visas to Jewish refugees in Kaunas, Lithuania, to save them from the Nazis. The movie opens Dec 5.

Is that a waxwork of Karasawa?

I wonder if the movie is going to show the government's actions towards Sugihara or whether they'll play that down to... since, you know, they love taking credit for him these days.

Shabbat Shalom from Tokyo, and I hope the movie does well. @Smith: They have had a change of heart in what they think of him now, and that is a positive. Koyuki Should have been in that leg contest. Karasawa is all set to go be displayed in a wax museum. Sense sees that too.
Monaka
Oh, brother... What's with these Japanese actresses and their one-word names?
TakahiroDomingo
@monaka: true, but no difference to "madonna", same one-worders all around the world if you're famous enough
clamenza
