If you do not understand Japanese, the rainbow may make people misunderstand for what banner means.

stickers! great idea! that'll solve the Tokyo spike!

Tokyo reported a single-day record of 367 new cases of the coronavirus the same day.

I'm predicting spikes of 1000 or more people a day by the end of August

It will all be over by the end of August, don't let the fear mongers spoil your life

Ahh the old "it will just magically disappear" Trumpian argument.

How has that worked out so far?

5 ( +13 / -8 )

It certainly won’t be over by the end of August... and it will most probably be way more than a 1000 per day by then too.

People in my area seem to be partying on at Izakaiyas and such with way less caution than when the levels were very low. Some places the staff now DONT wear a mask and have taken down the plastic partitions. Nuts!

I have seen that sign in my apartment building for at least 2 weeks, and now popping up around the neighborhood.

Of course it will, dear. Of course it will.

Hey I was going to say that!

Koike also requested that such businesses operate between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. from Monday through the end of August,

So by operating only 17 hours per day, a place is somehow extra safe from the virus?

adding the metropolitan government will pay 200,000 yen to each business abiding by virus-prevention guidelines.

Good deal lunch joints, cafes, and most normal restaurants which aren't open that late anyway.

The mask is off! korona sayonara it seems LOL!

A sticker? Nobody cares about stickers. What they need is a cute character to get the message across. Only them will the people stand up, take notice and act.

According to the government's panel of experts, the virus is only able to spread between 10:01pm and 4:59am, due to the ultraviolet radiation coming from Jupiter, so the the businesses should be fine at other times.

Stupid idea.

Tests don't save lives. Stickers do!

That was absolutely brilliant!!! Permission to use this in the future?

That is how the English word sticker is written in katakana.

We're doomed.

The pandemic is infecting thousands a day here now and the bold new policy is to hand out stickers to businesses which comply with some safety precautions that are themselves very weak.

And this is from the Prefectural government that is actually doing the most!

Japan is fast becoming an international joke.

No leadership whatsoever.

Koike is marginally better than Abe and Aso who are trying to stay out of sight.

Japanese leadership at its best.

No. How did you come to that as a conclusion?!?!

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Just hang a counterfeit rainbow in your window and you will be fine........You know thats what will happen.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

@Spitfire The international joke is not Japan, it is the USA, with close to 5,000,000 cases and 150,000+ deaths.

Totally gay gokai wants to know why the gay rainbow is being used. That will give it a very negative connotation in peoples' minds as they start associating it with the coronavirus.

Good job there's no pedants around.

The rainbow is a direct copy from the UK

Fog in the Channel, rest of the world cut off.

Corona virus don’t infect humans between 5am and 10pm...lol !

Instead of limiting the operating hours, they should have made more effective policies likes compulsory temperature checks at every single restaurant before entry, people with continuous / repeated cough of any kind politely denied entry, utensils such as dishes, forks, knifes, chopsticks, glasses to be disinfected with alcohol at all restaurant, wiping of tables and chairs properly with alcohol based disinfectant ( also the edges to be wiped, not only the top surface ) and please start spreading customers to a save distance from each other ( still many restaurants put customers next to each other when the entire restaurant is empty - the Japanese way! ).

Typo... save - safe

When I read some of the comments, I feel like people are under the impression that if you get touched by a single covid molecule, you get the virus.

It doesn't work that way. It works as a combination of viral load, and immune system defense. We've almost alll definitely had some covid virus hit our bodies, and our immune system dealt with the viral load, and prevented us from getting it. Those who get it got a viral load more than their immune system could handle. People with compromised immune systems cannot handle much viral load.

The whole idea of "flattening the curve" is to try to keep the number of contacts between people limited, so as to prevent the viral load people get from overloading their immune systems.

The idea that we can get rid of all human contact, so as to stop the virus in its tracks, is not realistic. At least, not with this virus. Maybe if it was a virus that was killing 25% of the people who get it, we may have had to take such measures. But in this case, we want to keep our planet moving.

So we mitigate the risk by taking such measures as wearing masks, distancing as much as possible, and trying to limit our interactions with people to a reasonable degree.

Unfortunately, so many are stuck in the binary mindset of either 'we need to shut down EVERYTHING' or 'It's futile, and we should stop even trying to do anything".

Both are extremely illogical. They are emotional responses from those without the intelligence to understand the science behind it.

When did 'rainbow' start to mean 'gay'..

So what would "chasing rainbows" mean in future? Why are we killing English?

That sticker is just about alright.

Koike seems to be keen on copying the UK in her slogans and images.

However, the UK is currently going through a sharp increase in cases.

She would do well to take note of the differences that Tokyo exhibits otherwise she will find that copying images and slogans is not enough...
