People in my area seem to be partying on at Izakaiyas and such with way less caution than when the levels were very low. Some places the staff now DONT wear a mask and have taken down the plastic partitions. Nuts!

According to the government's panel of experts, the virus is only able to spread between 10:01pm and 4:59am, due to the ultraviolet radiation coming from Jupiter, so the the businesses should be fine at other times.

@Spitfire The international joke is not Japan, it is the USA, with close to 5,000,000 cases and 150,000+ deaths.

Instead of limiting the operating hours, they should have made more effective policies likes compulsory temperature checks at every single restaurant before entry, people with continuous / repeated cough of any kind politely denied entry, utensils such as dishes, forks, knifes, chopsticks, glasses to be disinfected with alcohol at all restaurant, wiping of tables and chairs properly with alcohol based disinfectant ( also the edges to be wiped, not only the top surface ) and please start spreading customers to a save distance from each other ( still many restaurants put customers next to each other when the entire restaurant is empty - the Japanese way! ).

When I read some of the comments, I feel like people are under the impression that if you get touched by a single covid molecule, you get the virus.

It doesn't work that way. It works as a combination of viral load, and immune system defense. We've almost alll definitely had some covid virus hit our bodies, and our immune system dealt with the viral load, and prevented us from getting it. Those who get it got a viral load more than their immune system could handle. People with compromised immune systems cannot handle much viral load.

The whole idea of "flattening the curve" is to try to keep the number of contacts between people limited, so as to prevent the viral load people get from overloading their immune systems.

The idea that we can get rid of all human contact, so as to stop the virus in its tracks, is not realistic. At least, not with this virus. Maybe if it was a virus that was killing 25% of the people who get it, we may have had to take such measures. But in this case, we want to keep our planet moving.

So we mitigate the risk by taking such measures as wearing masks, distancing as much as possible, and trying to limit our interactions with people to a reasonable degree.

Unfortunately, so many are stuck in the binary mindset of either 'we need to shut down EVERYTHING' or 'It's futile, and we should stop even trying to do anything".

Both are extremely illogical. They are emotional responses from those without the intelligence to understand the science behind it.
