Attended a ceremony of this sort by Yokozuna Akebono in the mid 90s. (did the same at the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in Nagano). Magnificent rite! Hakkyoi !

I saw Akebono and his wife in a restaurant once. She looked so tiny next to him. Interesting to note that their kids were born in the hospital on Yokota Air Base near Fussa, One of my grandkids was born there, and Akebono's and his kids pics were all over the maternity ward
