Ah, the ineffable natural beauty of the Japanese concrete park. I always find the best way to contemplate our unique four seasons - we have four seasons in Japan, you know? - is to sprawl on concrete slab in a mass of flat grey concrete and have the boiling heat of summertime reflected and magnified by our traditional Japanese concrete.

Really - where else in the world would this be called a park?

his wife thinks he has been going to work for the last 2 months.

This guy is planking... not sunbathing.

It's not Rinko Park. It's NEAR the park but the lack of green should give you a clue.

Somehow it reminds me of a scene from "Apocalypto".

Sure he is not passed out after a night of drinking beer and sake?

"This damn doll always deflates suddenly!"

Wonder if this guy actually knows he is now pic of the day? Did they ask him before taking the pic?

Doesn't look very comfortable for sure.

Ivan couldn't have said it any better.

He must be burning his hands on the warm concrete. Very strange pose. Concrete parks have the advantage of not having so many mosquitos/bugs.

Ivan, mate, it's got trees! It has to be a park! ;)

That's the Rinko Park, just google it, plenty of green out there.

Does the phrase "skin cancer" ring any bells here?

People worry about getting radiation from Fukushima, then they go and do this? ...DUH!...

OK, probably not the same people.

Asians rarely get skin cancer, tkoin2

used to be true but not anymore, and causing a huge problem recently as people don`t take adequate protective measures because of this very assumption (according to my Japanese dermatologist who specialises in skin cancers)

but are 10 times more likely to get esophageal cancer. some trade-off....

Planker, plonker, whatever. Is this one for the ladies then? BTW, it's a park because there aren't any buildings on it. Ebina used to have a nice park right next to the station, and now it's a shopping center. Sigh!

Foxie. pull the other one mate.

Maitake -- agreed. Nothing like parks that probably contribute to the Heat Island effect, rather than provide relief from it. Green space in Tokyo/Yokohama is basically an oxymoron.

Too bad Yokohama is not Singapore, where the water is actually clean enough to swim in.
