Nice sunset. A bit of a letdown after the Hooters picture, but that couldn't be helped.

Interfering with Nature, not so pleasing.

I'll bet if Dr.McCoy saw this photo, he'd say "It's a miracle these people ever got out of the 20th century."

How does one tell a rising sun from a setting sun?

Whether or not you're drinking a beer. Unless you're a complete alcoholic, in which case there is no way of distinguishing the two.

Nice photo, pity about the pylon. There hasn't been any news from Saitama (a reservation on the outskirts of Tokyo for those who don't know) for a while so this was needed to fill the gap until the next bit of stupidity from there.

200,000 volts of 3 phase power never looked so serene and peaceful. Bravo.

Omiya is a great place to live and party - all the fun starts after the sun goes down!!

Johnny Carson used to say that Ed McMahon was a light drinker. As soon as it got light outside, he started to drink.

Re: pic, nice sunset, ugly wires and metal crap.

Looks like a scene from Godzilla just before the star arrives.

Picture of the day????????Perhaps" snap of the Morning" would be more appropriate.

Harry,,, some of us like living in Saitama, that way we can mix with the locals rather than,,,well,,,you :D

I agree Mittsu,,,Omiya has everything you need without having to travel into Tokyo

A nice sunset pic but would be better with pic of a pagoda in the foreground...

How does one tell a rising sun from a setting sun?

Interestingly, it is possible to tell a rising moon from a setting moon (without a compass), provided that you know whether the moon is waxing or waning and provided that the moon is not full or new.

For those asking about the difference between a sunset and sunrise, I find that sunsets tent to tint the sky orange while sunrises tend to tint the sky pink.

I think the main thing is a sunset is going from light to dark so the sky is dimming and a sunrise is going from dark to light so the sky is lighting up.

I`m glad you like the photo, @marcels it was taken in the evening..Idashed for the camera and tripod plus changed the lens to zoom and added a red filter for the desired affect. Camera: Nikon D5000. I like the ugliness of the pylon and the beauty of the sunset....so Japan.

If it was a pylon obscuring a pagoda, it might be ugly - here it's beautiful, and makes for a far more interesting photo than the sunset alone would.

@ivarwind. unfortch the pylons dominate the view from our viranda. however, my aim was to incorporate both in an ironic way..... :-)

Cool. Is Godzilla really going to show up in this picture tomorrow? Cool. I knew the big guy would be back.

Power pylons? Where's Godzilla?

It's perfect!!! Congratulation.

Perfect image of Japanese nature, wires blocking every calming view.

I like sunsets and sunrises, sunsets maybe more because of nostalgia.
