Misleading pic. Looked real beautiful until you scroll down and see the aftermath on the bottom.

ii1980: At first glance it looks like a classic ukiyo-e image but on closer examination the unfortunate elements appear.

Sad sunset.

Beautiful sunset, too bad that the place was destroyed which makes it an unlivable area. My heart goes out to all of those that are suffering and to all of those who lost their homes.

What a dramatic contrast the photographer has captured. Nippon, yomigaere!Rise up, Japan! Need some uplifting inspiration from Sweden?? Then go to YouTube: Song for Japan Man - Yomigaere! / マン - 甦れ!(応援歌)

That's Earthquake Weather. Brace yourself Sendai'cause you're still due for a big aftershock.

This is a sentimental picture. It was divided into two modes - the first top of the picture totally reflected the nature of any sunset we can see in our life, on contrast of the second bottom driving the viewers into different imaginary landscape. It could be anything we can imagine such as a huge landfill of industrial garbages or ....AP photographer had chosen a good position to shoot the sun partially covered by clouds, and the its red color was faded between the V-shape of tree branches ... he may wait until the moment of sunrise to shoot the second picture ... on Sunday morning.

Good photographer with some thought in mind of what the shot would look like once others took notice. YES it cought out attention for sure.

BernieK - what is "Earthquake weather"?

The sun continues to rise and set seemingly without notice or care of our little planet. I wonder if it will feel even just a little lonely if the day ever comes when there is no one left on Earth to watch it cross the sky.

I don't care what the caption says. That's not how Sendai really looks like as it is now! So the shore area got smashed, wowe! Trying showing some places in Tohoku that are actually in one piece rather than just the coastal towns being washed up.

I agree with IvanCoughalot. Life goes on and if any race can beat this dilemia, the Japanese will.

What I see is that the world continues. And that the devastation there is just a small thing beside that. Really rotten image to show people who's lives have been fouled by this thing. Maybe better the pictures of people picking up the shattered pieces of their lives, and putting up a new and better life out of that. More hope there.

AP photographers, take an another shot with sunrise next time.

IvanCoughalot & Maurice56,

Earthquake Weather is when the sun sets in an eerie way. For example, before the 7.1M 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake in San Francisco and the 7.3M March 9th Sendai Earthquake the sun looks different/eerie. It's not just a beautiful California sunset, but it's like an over glowing orange ball of light. You just sense the different lights from a regular sunset. I was at both earthquakes and the Big One on March 11th in Sendai.
