Be careful, my friend Japan, don't 100% trust Russia.

Another Japanophobic poster asked what does Japan and Russia get out of this? There is only one common concern and that is the world's most powerful dictatorship that has declared it's intent to become the dominant strategic power in the region. AS for peace treaties, funny you should even bring it up considering how much China abides by the Sino-Japanese Treaty of Friendship of 1972 reaffirmed in 1978.
Sure but they only hold 2+2 (defense + foreign ministry) with the US and Australia which share a common security concern. How does Russia fit in? What shared security concerns would they have with Japan?
The US does not have any alliances with China or Russia.

This is about Japan and Russia, which is still trying to sign a peace treaty after world war 2. You don't need to bring your sinophobia into this.
Japan can hold any 1+1, 2+2, and 3+3, meetings with anyone it likes.
Besides, your country, USA, holds bilateral defense meeting/exercise with Russia and China too.

Interesting that while some people believe the China and Russia are the best of buddies, Japan only holds 2+2 meetings with it's close allies United States and Australia, both of which China sees as adversaries to it's intent to dominate the South and East China Seas.
