Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, right, is greeted by Australian business tycoon James Packer, while Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott looks on in Perth, Western Australia, on Wednesday night. Abbott hosted a reception for Abe at Packer's casino. Packer, who has been following Abe on his Australian visit, is hoping that his casino group will be given access to Japan after the country lifts its ban on casinos.

Developing and ratifying trade agreement with Australia is one of the smartest moves of Abe's administration. The benefits will go along way for both countries in all areas : economic, political, cultural . . . .Australia is rich in minerals and many agricultural products . . and japan's technological industry can find a reliable market there as well.......Australia's universities also offer some of the most progressive studies ,

Is it me, or is Abe not looking at the guy he's shaking hands with?

What a gathering of villains.

Im all for opening trade to Australia, but Tony Abbot is the wrong guy to be doing it. Hes about as straight as a roundabout. Not even a year into his term and hes trying to get his friends to benefit from his position.

Mr Packer's endorsement of your political party would not come for free, tiger.

It is not only you. Abe looks like he is purposely ignoring the guy. Abe went Ausie to talk something else. To invite Packer's type casinos (Crown?) to Japan was not in his mind, I'd bet. Maybe Abe felt 'Get Lpst' to Packer bothering wherever Abe goes. The Abe's ignoring Packer is a Japanese custom to express Get Lost.

You'all need to get out of your caves a bit more . . . Have you ever been part of a " social Introduction ...............When being introduced a person's head and eye contact moves from the person who is introducing you to the person to whom you are being introduced. . . . . .A Photo catches a nano-second of an action . . . it is not the whole picture. . .HONESTLY do you all ever socialize???

@semperfl: I was talking about Japanese way. One of expression of displeasure. Like Akushu wa shitemo Kao o Miruna. Zettai ni atchi-ni ike to wa iwanai koto. (If you shake your hand, never look at face. never say get lost.) I was not wirting your social manner. Just we Japanese do as Abe is a Japanese.

Back on topic please. Abe is looking at Abbott who is introducing him to Packer. That's all there is to it.

I know this is a Japan-based website and the word tycoon originated in Japan, but who still refer to business people as tycoons. Tycoons to me convey the idea of exploiting the disadvantaged for their own greed!

Casino entry may be possible if Australia can soften its stand on Japan's Whaling (?!)

Abe is giving a green light (ok) to them they can plan ahead to move to Japan for International Casino investment. I am totally against it.
