The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route straddles Toyama and Nagano prefectures. It is popular among hikers, especially those who like to enjoy viewing autumn leaves and watch rock ptarmigan birds.

Most high mountains in Japan have designated paths to stop erosion from walkers. That's why there are ropes, to restrict damage to the widths of the paths and protect alpine plants and increasingly at-risk birds like ptarmigans. High mountains are the most unspoilt part of Japan.

The pond in the photo is at about 2300m. There are plenty of other places lower down where you can skim stones etc.

Love it up there,and the onsens are the best.

The Alps are pristine and attract millions of visitors every year. It requires some protection from those visitors. Alpine plants are rare and very small in size.
