U.S. President Barack Obama visits the Great Buddha statue in Kamakura on Sunday afternoon. "I was only 6 the last time I was here," Obama said. ''I looked up at that centuries-old symbol of peace and tranquility -- the great bronze Amida Buddha. And as a child, I was more focused on the 'matcha' ice cream. But I have never forgotten the warmth and the hospitality that the Japanese people showed a young American far from home." Obama's visit to the site of the 13-meter-high bronze statue was the last stop on his 10-day Asian tour. He sat with his hosts, ate green tea ice cream and toted away a bag of gifts, including two bracelets for his daughters, Malia and Sasha.

Best. Joke. Ever.

Yeah right. You'd just let any old Tom, Dick and Harry wander around in the same building as the President of the USA and slap him a low-five and say 'aaaight'. Are you people serious ?

Entering the site was restricted on the day, a Japanese news agency says.

All the coin lockers in Tokyo Station in the basement down by Maru Build have been sealed, which is just bizarre as I though APEC was being held in Yokohama and Obama's visit was to Kamakura ? Nowhere near Maru Build, unless they are totally telegraphing another trip (through Tokyo Station).

I went there last year. Quite a piece of artwork for something made several centuries ago, and a great inspiration for followers of the faith.

"That symbol of peace and tranquility?" Its a man-made idol, just like Obama.

LoveUSA
he is the most handsome president in the world.

No. Why would it be required to close access to a public place just because the President of The United states is visiting. The other tourists are probably all inside the Daibutsu.
jmills74
I am sure they were all forcibly removed...
EbiChiri
It costs ¥30 extra to enter the Buddha so he prob saved the Dems a few pennies there.
gyouza
Where are the othe tourists? Did they close especially for him?

When this picture hits the press in the US, Republicans will declare he is really a Buddhist.

just think how many people got turned away from the going there because Obama was there. So many people go there this time of year with the leaves changing and their visit got screwed up because of all the extra security.

Wow, the daibutsu bronze statue has weathered over the years. Now you have to pay to go inside?

Now, there's a quotation that demonstrates exactly how religious wars start.

Went to a temple on Sunday. Hope he went to church in the morning and supported the local Christian community.

He is a politician not a dress man. The suit does not change the message he would have given if he would have gone to Hiroshima.
Sarge
Barack looks nice in that suit. He should have gone to Hiroshima in that suit.

some14some.
We never did when we went in. Confuzzled? Just pay the fee and get inside.
some14some
