I like the random bystander wearing the helmet. I bet he walks around like that often. Looks like Vader is checking him out and probably thinking "Is this dude for real?"

Very Japanese.... STRANGE. They can't even pronounce the names.... Darth Vader (can't do it) storm troopers (can't do it) and the biggest embarrassment... adidas (can't do it.)

The bloke on the right is saying "I was told this was dress-down Thursday"

Much more stimulating than Halloween. I propose a star war day of the week, preferably Monday so I am motivated after Aloha Friday. Will you second it?

Over the years people have gotten so used to seeing Imperial stormtroopers on the streets of Tokyo that this photo hard seems worth commenting on. In fact, it would be good if actual J-Cops started wearing stormtrooper armor. Maybe then they'd get some more respect.

They couldn't find any British men to fill in the roles of officers again.

Officer: It's just a pair of running shoes

Vader: (force chokes officer) Do not underestimate the power of Adidas fool!

Sorry, but images like this bring flashbacks of Space Balls. He's about the same size as Dark Helmet too.

Very Japanese...VERY FANATIC!!!

Danny Choo overdid the stormtrooper in Shibuya. Now it's more or less on repeat. But I definitely do appreciate the initiative- finally accepting some guerrilla- and viral advertisement in Japan. Maybe the German part of Adidas here pushed that through. Good for them.

These guys are from the 501st. They are a world wide costuming group. They do a lot of volunteering for various charity groups as well. In addition, they sometimes get called upon by Lucasfilm to participate in promotional events. They are not paid talent and receive no money. I am a member here in Japan. We have "tall" Vaders but sometimes you have to go with who is available. We used tall troopers and a Vader for the pachinko commercials last year. 501st.com and 501st.jp have more information.

I agree; Darth Vader looks way too short to be convincing. If the organizers had somehow changed the mask proportions like, getting a smaller helmet, narrower armor breastplate and a really thin guy, the figure would have been more balanced.

Looks like the economy is quite bad at the moment. The guy on the end could only afford the helmet.

Oh I remember back when Darth Vader was actually scary. Not the buffoon they make him today.
