I wish Tokyo 2020 summer Olympic good luck with their match!(^^)!

There is no doubt no tomorrow if a bigger earthquake hit Fukushima again, then no longer future of Olympics again in Tokyo! Better focus to fix the crippled plants as soon as possible before Olympics.

Ann Coulter should be sitting front and center.

Fix fukushima, no Olympics in Tokyo

Tokyo Governor Inose is willingly running all over to promote 2020 Olympics in Japan. He should positively run all over to ask "help" from all over the World as simultaneously as Olympic bid activity.

The sad thing is that the Olympics would be dealt with infinitely better than the whole Tohoku recovery/Fukushima debacle. I think its high time that those in power took responsibility for the more pressing matters this country faces.

if you are patriotic enough to believe the lies from Tepco and the politicians, yes Tokyo is safe..but I doubt the international community will buy it.like Russia trying to hold Olympics at Chernobyl

I pray for Tokyo to be 2020 Olympic Host City! GO! GO! JAPAN!!!!

Tokyo would handle the planning and execution of the Olympics absolutely fine. Theyve hosted one summer and 2 winter Olympics and co-hosted a soccer World Cup already. Though I think the 2020 games here would lack flair - the area they are planning to have most of the venues and events is rather dull and in August it will so muggy - yick. What they dont well with here is dealing with sudden events; if something out of the ordinary happens then all bets are off a la Fukushima. Too late but it shouldve been in Kansai - Osaka, Kobe and Kyoto area wouldve brought much more to the bid. Not to mention it is even further from Fukushima. Living here we know Tokyo is safe but there are some words that really distort people`s perception of risk and one of them is "radiation". (another is terrorism...) Anyone coming here for 2-3 weeks for the Games would not face any increased risk of harm from Fukushima but that is beside the point with many people overseas not caring about details, simply thinking that now eastern Japan is like one big Chernobyl. Could affect the voting, we shall see.

So in other words, four days until the next bad news from TEPCO.

Fix your own backyard first, Japan. There are still SOOOO many people in makeshift housing and out of work since March 11th, 2011. Olympics are NOT a priority, nor will they help said people.

Readers, please refrain from posting meaningless comments like this. A candidate city cannot withdraw its bid three days before the vote.

I love Tokyo! BACK THE BID!!

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Olympic is only silly game for some short weeks. If Japan wins Olympic, all money will be waste on foolish games. We must grow up!

Many of you need to come back to Planet Reality. Yes, Fukushima has been handled poorly. Yes, there are still real, serious risks. But Fukushima and Tokyo's bid for the Olympics are two separate issues which your ill-informed minds have confused (as in made into one).

Tokyo is clearly the best bid of the three and if Economics, Political Stability, and Environmental Health were the deciding factors, it would be the only bid.

It is perfectly ok to be critical of TEPCO and the Abe Administration's response, but you should not allow your feelings about one to cloud your judgement of the other.

I am just happy that the majority view on JT represents an extreme minority view of the general public.

Go Go Tokyo! The Olympics in 2020 will be some serious fun! I just hope we get to have baseball back!

Graham: "But Fukushima and Tokyo's bid for the Olympics are two separate issues which your ill-informed minds have confused (as in made into one)."

So, if Fukushima gets worse and affects the Tokyo area, will that be 'ill-informed minds confusing the two'? What most people are saying is that the money that it would cost through construction and to host the games should be spent instead of Japan cleaning up its mess before it CAN affect the area the games would be hosted in. If there is another quake with the Fukushima plant as it is, Tokyo would cease to be a liveable area, period. And further more, if they are two seperate issues, why have up to now so many officials pushing for the Tokyo bid say it's on behalf of the people in Tohoku (including Fukushima)?

The only thing confusing is why the government insists of hurting the people in the north. True, nothing can be done about the bid now, but should they lose it is for the best as they can use the money that would have been spent on the games on better things.

I honestly hope it goes to Istanbul. It would be fun, regardless of where it is held, but I don't think Japan's ready for it at present, and I think Istanbul deserves it for a number of reasons that outweigh the financial security Tokyo can offer.

Japan need good income from Tokyo Olympic in Tokyo to finance Tohoku, Fukushima disaster. This picture shows support by Japan Inc. Huge ad income? Japan can shift to disaster area.
