US is already applying this technology to drones and going up to the next higher level with it.

It uses infared, so the range is probably 5-10 meters and must be in the line of sight of the controller.
For military applications, you would be better off with a strong stick.

The military applications for this mini drone are endless. I wonder what the range is.

My son has one similar to this (not quite as small). It is amazing! It is a lot of fun but they are difficult to control and unless you have a big room without too much clutter they bang into things and get bent very quickly. The battery life is about 5 minutes due weight restrictions. My son is 7 and he controls it very well (much better than me). It is possible that it would hurt your eye but that is about all. If kids are playing alone with it, maybe goggles would be a good idea. My son chases me with it and has hit me in the face. Does not hurt at all.

yeah something like that.

Oh this is cool. I am going to have to check them out when I'm in Japan in October. As for peoples safety I know it's safe for me, but I'm only a kid at heart. For real kids, that's up to the parents.

Goggles, maybe. But a helmet? For 11g?
calr751
it's a dirty job but somebody's gotta do it.
well lets be honest. it could injure a child. think about it. a small motorized toy mobile in the air with fast spinning blades. you would definitely want to put a safety helmet on your child.
smithinjapan
Don't let those blades get any closer to your eyes!
Seriously, though -- good pic, and a neat little toy. I kind of wonder about the safety of it for kids, though. Are the blades metal?

I can see many other uses other than just a toy. Why can't you set a camera inside and fly them inside of Fukushima Daiichi for a good use?

Lookg fun, I would love to buy one.
@calr751 You sound like a typical PTA president who complains about everything about everything. Here is a 11 gram toy and you are worried about death and serious injuries ? you gotta be kidding me
Citizen2012
But the battery must be very small so the capacity small too, how long can you play with it ? 2 or 3 mn ? and then have to wait for 2 or 3 hours charging ...
lucabrasi
Should be able to sell a couple of thousand to the Yanks, for taking out wedding parties in Afghanistan....

this doesn't make sense. a small motorized toy with blades spinning fast will become a great danger to children, especially to their eyes. according to us consumer product safety commission, 262,300 children(under 15) were injured by toys in 2011 and some died. about 40% of the injuries were in the head/face area. when children play with motorized toys, you can expect the worst for sure. maybe the company should come up with some kind of a safety helmet to go with this toy to protect eyes and face.

Fantastic!. Those things are perfect for harassing the noisy Bosuzoku or campaigning politicians in your neighborhood.

More like a (17 year) Cicada, but a mosquito in the ear is close to the sound.
Dennis Bauer
I hope it doesn't make the same noise as a mosquito otherwise it will get swatted a lot

Too many dolls and too much pink in my house at the moment. Can't wait for my son to get old enough to want stuff like this!
