After 8 years of not being fished the populations of fish around Fukushima Dai-Ichi should be very abundant with many large breeding fish. However, I sincerely doubt they are fit for human consumption. The same thing happened with the fauna around Chernobyl. It became an extremely healthy environment with excellent diversity. Perhaps, Fukushima fishermen should turn their attentions to fishing charters with a strict 'catch and release' rule. The numbers of fish would be very good for recreational fishing. There are many large flounder (hirame) in the photo. These are bottom dwelling fish and would be full of the heavy isotopes released by the meltdowns. However, they are a great sports fish. Just don't eat them!
