The US Marines have such good kit.Remember getting Kevlar helmet and kit off them as an air cadet.

Why does the Japanese kit have shiny metal buttons on the front? Makes to be easily seen in daylight

USA equipment modern, new, tested.

Japan's equipment looks like it's from 1995. The helmet doesn't even have mounts for night vision or special equipment.

NOT looking good. Japan must try to distance from US.

The U.S Marines. Only good for creating mayhem, wherever stationed. The marines are supposedly an amphibious force attached to the navy. And have not done so since 1950 - 70 years ago. An antiquated fighting force not to be emulated. Hopefully the JGSDF will not be cowed their fellow warriors and develop bad habits.

Supposedly an amphibious force? Teach or transfer cowed and develop bad habits through military cultural and an exchange and share of ideas how to keep Japan from being invaded or worse?

Your comment is baseless and highly insulting to the Corps and those that serve and have served. You dishonor seven marines and one sailor that paid with their lives on August 19th 2020 in California, for the amphibious readiness and training to assist our allies all over the world and NATO. That happens day in and day out in various sea and weather conditions.

These men drowned to death in 600ft-deep water off the Southern California coast Richard.

Marines are highly effective amphibious warriors right next to their counterparts the SEALS Teams.

Creating Mahem?

Last time the JDF was deployed overseas the term creating Mayhem was an understatement.

The helmet doesn't even have mounts for night vision or special equipment.

In most militaries, only spec-ops use the helmets with built in mounts for night vision optics and comm equipment.

The NVGs come with a mount that can be attached to the rim of the helmet, or by removing a screw. Or they use the headband type mount that doesn’t require a helmet.

Those are pistol mag pouches. The fact that he only has pistol mags, and no rifle mags means he is either a high ranking officer, or PMO (MP).

Have no idea what that rant was all about, but having the best fighting force in the world seeing these men and women alongside the JGSDF makes me proud to be an American and hope to see more training and cooperation between the two sides.

The Marines conducted the longest range amphibious assault in history in 2002, over 400 miles. Marines aboard ships of TF-58 in the North Arabian Sea captured an airfield in southern Afghanistan called Rino using a massive long range helicopter assault. The helicopters refueled in the air from USMC KC-135 tanker aircraft. Gen. Mattis decided to leave the Marines artillery on the ships and rely on precision guided munitions from Marine Corps and Navy aircraft for close air support. The operation was successful and proved the Marines can make amphibious assaults entirely by air at very long distances from the target.

Really? JGSDF was deployed to South Sudan circa 2013 as part of the UN force there (alongside the South Koreans, gasp). Japan has a military base in Djibouti shared I believe with India. The JMSDF also deploys ships on anti-piracy patrol off the Horn of Africa. Where is all the havoc?
