Celebrity Junichi Ishida, 55, who rarely wears socks, gives American actress Anna Kendrick, 25, a few pairs during an event in Tokyo on Tuesday to promote her film "Up in the Air." Kendrick let on that she had been shopping for socks in Harajuku during her visit, but said she didn't buy any with five toes. Speaking about the movie, which opens in Japan on Saturday, Kendrick said of star George Clooney: "Before I met him, I was expecting him to be very strict and scary because he is so famous, but in fact he always made other people feel comfortable around him.” Asked what she would put in her suitcase, if she could only pack three items, Kendrick joked, “Actually I’m not a good traveler. I always pack too much. But if I could only put three things in my suitcase, that would be my mom, my dad and my brother for sure.”

"rarely wears socks"
He doesn't have to wash socks. Saves water, detergent and electricity.
paulinusa
But what about his celebrity feet?
Gurukun
Socks....fingers? LOL!!! That's a Japanese talento comment.

I still have no idea what this guys profession is
3RENSHO
He is a professional lounge lizard.
Gurukun
I agree. And I have no idea how he got that lady's man/playboy image.

Actually I think it's a mistranslation. JT editors, socks have toes, not fingers. Just for the sake of accuracy, he also appears to be giving her more than one pair of socks.

Yes. This is important! Without a correction historians in years to come may mistakenly refer to the 'pair' of socks that Ishida gave to Anna Kendrick, when it should be 'pairs'.
yomuri
Japanese say fingers for toes
I've not met one English speaking Japanese person that calls them toes
LoveUSA
it is the same, no big deal

That is Ok when you have an entourage to carry your bags.

So Hollywood is back to the 50s look. I like it.

I like it when celebrities are put into every day situations (like receiving some pairs of socks as present). Makes them closer to us, normal humans...

@ebisen
Nah, she's an "actress", not a "celebrity". She's famous for her acting. Someone who's famous for something like not wearing socks is called a "celebrity".

I must admit that I love go-hon (five) toe socks. I bought some the last time I visited Japan and my mother-in-law sent me a few more pair a couple of months back ("free size" for big footed foreigners). You just can't find them for adults in my country; which is probably why I don't wear them when I go to the gym.
Oh, and it was pretty nice of the guy to pick up some socks for Kendrick knowing that she had been looking for some.

Saw the movie in the States (very good). She portrays a super-intelligent but naive young woman who thinks that people should be fired/sacked using technology instead of face to face. So she's not really the glamorous type.

They are both very cute and charming in this photo. 'Finger' socks, a good souvenir of Japan!
LoveUSA
Their IQ is similar, good match.
Bungalow
imagine that!

5 toe socks are supposed to be better for your circulation, as well as lessening toe jam and uh-oh fot odour.

She is stoked. No doubt. I'm glad for his sake she didn't forget to buy lingerie. Way to go Junichi ! Einstein also dismissed socks often.
