This was not mandatory, but i think she did it as a good gesture towards the relation between the two country .

Well she didn't come only for this of course, she has also been welcomed by turkish president Erdogan the day before and she will participate to many festivities until September 14.

At this point, there is no honor in the gesture. She is dressed as an intelligent soldier. A bit american, I would say. Too mechanic.

It is at least a good protection for Turkey. Ataturk was an enlighted leader with good peace and freedom values. You can change a lot in Turkey but the ritual remind the people the will of their founder.
