A sad truth that the only people with happy faces in this picture, as in town, seem to be the drawings. Everyone in 3-D looks thoroughly miserable all the time, no matter how many infantile "characters" they surround themselves with.
bicultural - there has to be a middle ground between grinning like an idiot and looking like a bagful of smashed arseholes like the denizens of this burg do.
Look at the drawing - everyone's mouth goes up at the corners. This vinegar-titted old trout has the corners of her mouth pointing at her shoulders. Par for the course in this neck of the woods.
An amateurish, boring photo of absolutely no social relevance or visual interest.
It's not so much that, as . . . it's been done already.
Some urban background of a Tokyo building or scene scape, and a business or casually dressed Tokyoite with a keitai. Oooh! How exotic! How electronic!
I think when I was snapping the Yaesu Mizuho Shoken board on Sotodori the other day, (after Kan won), I caught a passer-by in the flick. I have to go back and check, but it's going to look a lot like this photo. Except a guy and the electronic shoken board.

Really? Reuters, a very professional organization, thought enough of it to publish it. It gains visual interest from the fact that a real person is walking the same way the people in the ad are walking. Would have been a little bit nicer if the photog had dragged the shutter to blur her motion.
"Great shot. Moral of the pic: Get off the phone and you can smile like the rest of us."

if she was a little taller she would look as if she was peeing on the dog.

Japanese woman + looking at + mobile + & texting = Bumping in to me at Tokyo Sation
If I gained a 100 yen for everytime someone bumps into me at Tokyo Station while using their keitai I would be a rich man.

ivan, do you always walk around town with a big smile on your face? Not unless you want to be thought of as "hen" eh?
ReformedBasher
@ ivan, I find your comment sad, not the picture
As for me, the woman is within my age group, that makes me smile :-)

What a waste of advertising.
People walking around with their eyes and ears glued to their mobile phone aren't going to see any of these creations, unless they bump into it...
marushka
