U.S. golfers Michelle Wie, left, and Paula Creamer, right, pose with defending champion Ai Miyazato of Japan during a photo call after a news conference ahead the HSBC Women's Champions golf tournament in Singapore on Tuesday. Wie was wearing a Korean traditional Hanbok costume, while Creamer wore a Japanese kimono.

Wow, I didn't know Ai was so short...or michelle and Paula were so tall. What is Ai dressed as?

a gnome

Gurukan -- agree. Given her relative stature, Ai's accomplishments on the LPGA tour -- several victories and a #1 ranking -- are all the more remarkable. Plus, she is reputed to be a very nice gal. The other pros all love her. She's a great ambassador for Japan.

Japanese sports have flied up from soccer, figure skating, judo, golf and others. Congratulation! Ai-san is a great idol for Japanese women and men to feel proud.

Three gorgeous birdies!

Wie is really tall, like 190cm or so.

Paula is the prettiest.

Wie and Creamer look great.

I kind of feel bad for Ai. This picture makes her look so unflattering compared to her neighbors.

Paula is the prettiest by a thousand miles!

Just out of interest, I checked their heights.

Michelle Wie: 185cm Paula Creamer: 175cm Ai Miyazato: 157cm

Height obviously doesn't have much bearing on golf skill in Ai's case, but unfortunately this picture does make her look pretty stubby.

Reminds me of a gentleman's club in Tokyo (inside joke). Michelle must be the most popular ABC name for a girl besides Silvia... and James...or John Woo or Jacky Chan.

oops.. she's Korean and 6'1.

Whoa, that Hanbok costume is REALLY unflattering. I hope that she is not nearly as fat as she looks. Awful, just awful!

Ai did herself no justice by dressing like that,Wie and creamer look great, from the photo looks like Ai is being pushed down by both girls,as if she,s not short enough!!

Ai-chan's got the right attitude. She's holding the winner's trophy to get used to the feel of carrying it after Sunday! And she is all ready to go hit the range and work on her game instead of playing dress-up. At least she looks like she is there to win a golf tournament.

Michelle is not Korean, she is American from Hawaii. Ai has really turned into a star on the LPGA tour after the Japanese media let up on her and let her play golf. She has one of the best short games around. Like Kim Mi-Hyun (under 5 foot) she gives a lot away from the tee but makes up for it with her pin point approach shots.

damn she's small

right- Korean American, sorry.

She's really thin. It's just how the costume looks.

I can understand Wies dressing up in a hanbok as some sort of salute to her ethnic origin. Creamers "turning Japanese" look however has me stumped. Surely a better choice would`ve been that of an Amish maiden or Daisy Duke.

Couldnt they have got some phonebooks for ai-chan to stand on??

I guess Paula had to wear the kimono because Ryo is wearing her pink golf clothes like he did a Pebble last year.

Wii is just too big.... Why is she wearing a Korean traditonal clothes? She is an American for god sakes.

I believe Michelle Wie is of Chinese ethnicity. Why is the Hanbok called a costume here, but the kimono isn't?

Wie is American, but her parents are from Korea. She's just showing her roots.

Besides it's not nearly as ridiculous as Creamer wearing a kimono is it?

I believe Michelle Wie is of Chinese ethnicity.

Nope. Her parents both immigrated from South Korea to the United States.

Me being of Chinese ethnicity I would love for her to be Chinese, but she is of Korean ancestry.

Way to insult a country's national dress- make sure you don't say that to any Koreans you meet in the future. I think it is pretty, myself. And Michelle is very slim, but the hanbok is meant to de-emphasise a woman's figure.

JT has chosen the meaningful picture of Ai-san and her American counterparts - Korean American and American women golfers. We can focus on red colors and the composition of three women golfers from their heights and outfits. Ai was in a regular golf outfit, on contrast to Wie in her Korean Hanbok, and Creamer in her Japanese kimono. This is the balanced triangle. Wie and Creamer put their hands on Ai's shoulders. you can guess more meaning then.

@shogun36 & Stranger in a Strange Land

Thank you both for the correction. Her family name looked, and sounded Chinese to me, so it threw me off. :-)
