By the time you push that button after the drunkard has fallen, he or she is going to be pancaked by an oncoming train because we all know just how fast Japanese authorities react to emergencies - at a glacial pace. Besides, wasn't there another article talking about how when the on board emergency brake is pulled, it only stops the train at the next closest station? Yeah... Hopefully, some good Samaritan or two will be able to help pull the person up from the tracks if they are nearby.

If social media companies are deemed guilty of enabling hate and fake news, why are alcoholic beverage producers not considered guilty of enabling the misdeeds and misfortunes of drunks such as the oddly shaped, unmasked gymnast pictured?

if safety is important, wouldn’t installing guardrails be more efficient and overall more cost effective?

Sometimes they can't, as there are different trains that stop at the station, and the doors aren't all in the same places.
