Kudos to beaming Shiho Utsumiya’s inspired design. Now onward and upwards for this young lady thoughts on the logo for 2020?...

Reminds me of a logo I saw once in Belgium...

Almost pooped my pants! - Thought it was the logo for the Tokyo Olympics. Okay, an umeboshi atop a boiled egg on a blue plate surrounded by some kind of blossoms. Don't mean to be too critical, but isn't that a design completely devoid of obvious meaning and artistic talent?

Not bad. I like it. I just hope no plagiary complaints will come up.

It's not horrible, but I can't say I think it's particularly good either. Too much going on.

She could've kerned the top row a little better. Looks like "G72016".

Her logo is awesome and she knows it. Look at how happy she is!

Maybe. Or she's happy because she won?

Okay, I finally got the symbolism: red dot for Japan, one petal for each of the seven members, and a blue circle representing earth minus the huge landmass whose expulsion led the G8 to be the G7.

The same trite symbols. For God's sake.

Gosh, I wonder what the other contenders' designs were like!

This is about as interesting as a Bill Gates speech!

It's strangely garish, but I think we'll get used to it. What choice do we have at this late stage?

looks like she is a high school student.. so good for her!

Gee. It seems like a few posters didn't fare well with Santa.

Two great smiles and a well-executed design. The kerning is perfect. What more can you ask for. (Well, perhaps they could do something about the veneer backdrops they use for these occasions. )

The kerning is good, but that's the text, not the logo. The logo itself has too much going on, and when you shrink that down, or turn it into black and white, it's not going to be very clean.

The kerning is perfect.

No it's not. There should be more separation between G7 and 2016. Really basic stuff.

Really basic stuff.

If you want a really basic design, I guess so.

I wonder if those who are making snide remarks about this design even bothered to send their own idea in ? I doubt it !

I meant this is fundamental knowledge if you're into desktop publishing. Look again at the spacing between G, 7, and 2. That is just poor kerning, no two ways about it.

I haven't even said anything about the placement of the two lines of text on a busy background that would make readability suffer on smaller print sizes.

Look, I get it, she is adorable, seems wholesome, and all that. But I'm critiquing her work here, not trying to win her affection.

The G 7 2016 reads well to me. Basic kerning on G7 would tighten things up and not match the soft design - it would take us back to that Olympics logo - fairly standard stuff. Is there some pre-determined way that we should read 'G7'. It's not a word.

One intriguing thing about the design is that the seven petals (I thought they were pigs initially) aren't spaced equally around the perimeter. I don't know if that was intentional, but it adds an unusual dynamic.

A logo should be distinctive, practical, graphic, simple in form and conveys an intended message. She did a good job. Congratulations!

I wonder if the Prime Minister chose it himself.
