Dangerous game! I wonder if drivers are happy to die during game. Their numbers surely would be up someday.

Actually F1 is really safe. Sensational picture though.

Oh yeah, WELL safe.

Excellent photo, whoever took it.

Reminds me of Transformers, for obvious reasons.

What happened to the dude driving? OK? Injured? Dead?

A really stunning picture of a race car in the process of being destroyed. I hope that Kobayashi is OK.

No injuries. These cars aren't perfectly safe, but it's amazing that the drivers walk away from so many crashes. Another consideration is the layout of the tracks, which now include large runoff areas around curves. Where cars used to run into walls, now they get stuck in big gravel traps. That's probably the biggest contributor to the increased safety of F1 over the years.

The Sauber car, driven by K.Kobayashi, lost its front wing during the opening lap. With a complete loss of control, he collected the Williams car of Nico Hulkenberg (blue livery). Very dangerous accident, but both drivers are fine. The safety standards are very high in the modern F1, as the F1 monocoque is designed to sustain such impacts.

Kobayashi is a great driver, just need a good car! And F1 is safe but not at all, in this kind of car the head of the driver is "out of the car" as you can see, and this is a big problem (remember the accident with Massa last year and another accident where a driver died). For me the car safer of the world is the COT (Car of Tomorrow) used in NASCAR since 2007.

Resembles just another day on a California freeway like where I live.

I'm sure the guy's okay, 'else we'd be hearing about it as front page news and not as a photo of the day with a short caption. Hence, it is a sensational picture.

I personally think race car driving is one of the most boring sports to watch ever, though I can see it being a major rush if you're involved. The sport isn't the safest, but the part in which the drivers actually sit is quite secure compared to the rest of the vehicle.

F1 cars are designed to break apart and take the brunt of the crash forces. The cockpit is designed to hold together as everything else around it breaks apart.

I tend to think F1 and NASCAR are very boring. WRC is interesting, but coverage of it on TV can be hit or miss.

I have only one comment. Barrichello is second forever.
