GW: Then you agree with me about two points which I've mentioned before:
That ginnan does come with salt. That yakitori is absolutely delicious and the best (otherwise you wouldn't be eating it for 20 years). However, if you have been eating and loving it for 20 years, then how is it you aren't aware that yakitori also comes with "tare" (or sauce)? Oh, and for your information, ginnan also comes buttered. Yummy stuff.

been chowing on sticks for 20yrs here, thousands of ginnan have met their match in front of me haha, but about the only way to avoid lots of salt is to make yr own!

GW: I don't know about you, but the ginnan I had did have some salt on it. In fact, if you try yakitori, you can either choose to have salt on it, or sauce. Either way, they're delicious. Also, if you ever try "ginnan", you'll find (depending on the shop you go to), some are cooked with a little butter, which makes it even more delicious.

almost NOTHING is lightly salted wrt yakitori, ditto for ginnan

Love the yakitori shops. I especially like the "momo" with green peppers and onions. Not a fan of the liver, but I also like the minced meat yakitori sticks as well as the lightly salted and grilled "ginnan" (or ginkgo nuts) on a stick. Excellent with beer.

I never had Yakitori until I visited Japan earlier this year. It goes great with beer, but then again, what doesn't. :-)

I like the Yakitori joint near JR shimbashi station.

I was referring to the quality not variety. You get what you pay for, and at 70 Yen...

I am sure they also have stuff like piman, shishoto, negi, shitake, lots of stuff besides chicken!

In addition to chicken they have pork, liver, etc.

Moderator: Readers, please stay on topic. The subject is yakitori, not sushi.

Huge fan of sticks & beer, but you need to watch some of the cheap joints, lot of recycling, re-using going on at some joints, & you risk life & limb at Y100 sushi joints where you have no idea what kind of fish is being served & they even serve fresh water stuff which is a BIG nono!
Have fun but stay safe!

Yakitori for 70yen is not that uncommon. Iseya(famous) in Kichijoji also sells for the same price.
While I like Yakitori, in summer I prefer Greek style Souvlaki.

Its also known as "salmonella on a stick."

I'm sure it's chicken at 70 yen a stick...

Awesome to see more of your photos featured here Jeff, good stuff :)

It's a cap, but I can see what you mean about it looking like a basket.
This is a great yakitori stand. Easy, very inexpensive, and delicious.

My favorite yakitori places are the ones near the elevated train tracks at Yurakucho in Tokyo.
some14some
is it a cap or basket on his head?

Yakitori and summer, they go well together.
