Former Morning Musume leader Mari Yaguchi, 27, and comedian Takao Yamada, 54, show kuroge wagyu (Japanese beef) at Yaguchi's restaurant in Roppongi, which is part of the Onyasai shabu shabu chain, on Tuesday. The meat is called "zabuton" in Japanese because it resembles "zabuton" cushions.

"The meat.." where is meat? " The fat.." is more correct.

Fat adds to the flavour. I love it when the meat melts in your mouth.

why bother - just heat up some lard. it has almost the same fat content and melts in your mouth.

Let's pay an arm and a leg for a bunch of fat stringed together with a bit of meat!
zenobia
I don't want to eat fat OR zabuton

I like my meat but none of that marble fatty stuff.

This meat is really nice for shabu-shabu or even yaki-niku, but forget trying to BBQ it as a steak. Give me a good old Aussie rump or T-bone steak any day, but not those paper thin samples of rump they sell here.

General I don't like marble beef. Said that I like a bit of fat on the edge like on a pork cutlet, etc or nice Biltong.
Nice cripsy grizzle is yummy.

Over rated & way over priced. I also don't like sitting on meat, unlike my Yu chan;)

it's not like they just photographed this, it is a staged advertising campaign with two happy-go-lucky out of touch with reality advertising company props.
Fadamor
It looked like some loofa sponges that had been dyed red.
Marbling is what gives a meat its distinctive flavor. There's a reason many forms of wild game "taste like chicken" and the reason is because of the extremely low fat content found in most wild game. Without the fat imparting its flavor to the meat when it's cooked, muscle tissue pretty much tastes the same no matter what animal it came from. So all those who strive for 0% fat in their meat will probably offset the health benefits by increasing the seasoning (read: salt or other sodium products) to add flavor.

Beef is the best food there is! Yaguchi san knows what's good :)

Well said fadamor. Anyone who says this stuff doesn't taste good probably hasn't had it or can't afford to. Just try going to Imahan in Asakusa once and you won't regret it.

bicult - it sounds nice. I meant I don't want to eat cushions/zabutons.
