On the very first episode of Speak Up Asia, host Anthony Joh talks with Michelle Sun about her educational startup that is teaching the children of Hong Kong how to code.
Michelle started First Code Academy initially as a side project but when three of the best schools in Hong Kong reached out to her, she knew she had a winning formula on her hands. Targeted to pre-teen children, the school not only focuses on teaching children the intricacies of coding but encourages them to actually build something during their time at the school.
One of the passions that drives Michelle is to provide tech related opportunities to young women. There is a huge lack of role models in the industry and many girls feel pressured to stay away from pursuing a career in tech.
By getting girls into the Academy at a younger age, Michelle hopes to foster a love and a passion for coding.
