If you’ve been in Tokyo for any length of time, you’ve probably heard the voice of our special guest in this edition of the Kong Show… Guy Perryman.

Perryman MBE is an award-winning British radio broadcaster, DJ, voice actor, event producer and writer. He has DJ’d for royalty including HRH Prince William, interviewed rock royalty including Sir Paul McCartney and was the world’s first person to DJ live on board commercial airline flights.

He has been based in Tokyo since 1990 when he was brought to Japan as DJ for the launch of Virgin Megastores.

Since 1995, Perryman has hosted numerous radio programs on InterFM in Tokyo and stations across Japan and has interviewed hundreds of stars including Sting, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Paul Smith, Judi Dench, Richard Branson, Nile Rodgers, Tomoyasu Hotei, Miyavi, Jamie Cullum, Olly Murs, Paul Weller, Little Mix and many more.

He currently hosts LHR – London Hit Radio – the only British music and interview program in Japan broadcast weekly in Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya and Fukuoka.

In addition to his radio duties, he’s also a voice narrator on a huge number of productions including commercials for Panasonic, Suzuki, Toshiba and Uniqlo, NHK World TV programs J-Flicks and Japanology Plus, Hollywood feature film “Road To The Sky” and characters on animations for "Detective Conan" and "YKK Fastening Days" and games for Sega, Konami and global hit series "Metal Gear Solid."

And in addition to all that, he’s often called on to be a DJ and MC for corporate events including for Dom Perignon, Tiffany, Globe-Trotter, Jaguar Land Rover, Bang & Olufsen and the British Embassy in Tokyo for Prince William.

There’s more, much more, but we’ll let you discover that for yourself simply by Googling his name.

Most recently, Guy was awarded the MBE for services to British music in Japan and that is the subject of this interview conducted in the Oakwood lounge in Tokyo Midtown.

There is something about this show that just doesn't sit well with me. Being a long time resident of Japan I am often baffled by the lack of content these shows have. Surely Japan (Tokyo) which IS an international city with one of the largest economies in the world can do better than this. There is so much to see, interview and explore that I feel would fascinate all living in Japan or abroad, however, the interviewer lacks vision and courage with the questions and guests on this show. The whole DJ paradigm is obsolete. It doesn't apply to 2017. It's the same old story being beaten to death by an unwillingness to explore deeper forms of entertainment with meaning.

I've known Guy for a few years. He is a super nice guy and certainly deserves the honor.
