10 defectors officially expelled from DPJ

The ruling Democratic Party of Japan has officially expelled 10 Lower House lawmakers who announced in late December that they were leaving the party.

The 10 defectors earlier this month launched a new party called Kizuna. It is headed by Akira Uchiyama from Chiba Prefecture.

The defectors said they left the DPJ because of Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda’s decision to hike the consumption tax and resume the Yamba dam project.

When he formed the new party, Uchiyama said the DPJ has broken key pledges in its 2009 election manifesto and is moving in a different direction to what voters expected of the DPJ.

Uchiyama said the new party will try to get the DPJ back on track and work with it to formulate polices for the good of the people.

Good riddance.

What's the point of expelling people who have already left?

Weren't there NINE defectors who formed the Kizuna Party? Where'd the 10th go?

The 10th guy is Yokomine Yoshiro. He joined the Shinto Daichi Shin Minshu Party. The head is Suzuki Muneo.

ahhh Muneo...another nice guy like Ozawa.

So they fired the people who quit. I know Japan can be ridiculous when it comes to bureaucracy and forming panels and studies to think about getting things done, but this about takes the cake. Anyway, yes, good riddance to the bad rubbish already gone.

"Uchiyama said the new party will try to get the DPJ back on track and work with it to formulate polices for the good of the people."

This says it all! How is the guy going to get the 'DPJ back on track' since they left the party?? LOL.

Doesn't it just mean they did the necessary paperwork? Until the t's are crossed and the i's dotted the defectors are still officially party members and theoretically able to claim the benefits of party membership, possibly even access to party funds. It's like getting a legal divorce after you've been living apart awhile.

the word "defector" sounds accusative, as if they were criminals. this almost gives my the right to call defectors all who disagree with my posts here.

keep infighting! Japan needs a ruling party like DPJ who were experts of internal power struggle rather than ruling the state! Wonderful...bring it on!

Wow, some guys trying to stop the dpj party being a bunch of liars like the ldp. Indeed good to make sure THEY are out of the room as Noda carries on acting as the LDPs PM...
