Like I have been saying, these times of incursions happen on nearly a daily basis, either by ships, or airplanes.

The JSDF needs to send out their ships, plant the flag on Senkaku, and reestablish a base there.

And as I've been saying for a long time , if Japan does not assert its rights over the islands, its only a matter of time before China establishes a military base on the islands. Look at the proximity of the Senkaku islands to Okinawa. Does Japan (and Okinawans) want a Chinese military base stronghold near Okinawa?

Furthermore, if it weren't for the U.S. / JSDF military presence on Okinawa, you'd see even more aggressive incursions in the region by the Chinese.

And for those who believes China is not an enemy or a threat, think again. Look at what China is doing or will do to Taiwan and Hong Kong democracy.

"The JSDF needs to send out their ships, plant the flag on Senkaku, and reestablish a base there."

And build a giant rail gun that can rotate 360 degrees...

Send those aggressors back to where they came from!

"The JSDF needs to send out their ships, plant the flag on Senkaku, "

There is a lighthouse which the J Coast guard maintains, and J flags on all islands.

Senkakus are firmly under Japan's watch as the Soryu subs are parked in the area to monitor China's access to the Miyako Straits.

"if Japan does not assert its rights over the islands, its only a matter of time before China establishes a military base on the islands"

They're free to try, at their own peril.

Japan deploys 12 coast guard ships to patrol disputed Diaoyu Islands

And that was the number they wanted us to know of, in 2016.

Next time the Yaeyama islands administrative officials should setup a welcoming party and ceremony. This would create a diplomatic dilemma for the Chinese, as accepting such an offer would mean admitting that the islands are administered by Japan.

Japan has an easy decision to make, choose Senkaku, or China. Only one simple decision.

As Japan is still under US occupation, the US should become involved.

When Japan started to make trouble for China in 2010 by declaring "Pioneering Day" to commemorate Japan's 1895 annexation of the Senkaku Islands, GDP for Japan and China were 5.1 and 6.1 trillions, respectively. Today, almost 20 years later, it is about 5.75 and 27.3 trillions based on PPP. The change of balance is simply astonishing, unpredicted by all Japanese experts and politicians. Had they knew it then, they wouldn't do the same stupid thing to challenge China recklessly. There is no way that Japan can win the dispute, based on laws and justice and history. No one would ever go to war with China for the Islands, no matter what they would say.

The Japanese navy should destroy it down to a depth of 50 meteres or so, leaving nothing to claim, and no possibility of rebuilding. Game over. Conflict averted. Money saved. Ships redeployed.

Right, real smart, and make the area international waters as well, as Japan would then no longer be able to claim the area, as it has no "land" to stand on!

No not a good idea. Better to reestablish the station that was once there, and many the property 24/7.

Destroy properties that belong to others, is that typical colonizer mentality ?

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Japans ownership of the Senkaku Island is indisputable. China needs to choose if it wants to be the "Evil aggressor" or follow International laws like everyone else. Judging by its attempt to steal the South China sea it has already decided to be the "Evil Aggressor". China has no interest on anything but expansion and taking what belongs to others. This will only get worse in time. The new wave of Colonialism started by China.

Sure hope the world does not start killing eachother over this.

JSDF and US military should use the islands as gunnery and bombing ranges. That should keep the Chinese out of the area.

Tom Webb

That is exactly what the US Navy used one of the smaller islands for during the Vietnam war.

Japan has an easy decision to make, choose Senkaku, or China. Only one simple decision.

In other words, Japan has an easy decision to make: assert its sovereignty over the islands, or capitulate to China and allow them to dominate the region, pushing up the territorial lines right up to the Miyako-Okinawa Islands.

The Chinese Communist Party is pushing the limits of the international order around the globe, desperate for resources to keep their oppressed masses quiet, they have had ships shot at by Argentina, attempting to steal sea areas by their spurious nine dash line and claims against Japan as well as launching a wave of colonialist occupation of resources through debt slavery of third world countries and its belt and road scam, while building its offensive military capabilities so as to bully its neighbours. We won’t even discuss the oppression of those it already controls like Tibet, the Uighur minority and Hong Kong.

Why is it if China does it, it is considered aggressive, colonisation but when the US does it all is OK? Again, Japan is still under US occupation, its foreign policy is totally controlled by Washington. Again, and rightly, we get condemnation of Chinese treatment of Tibet, the Uighur and HK but no condemnation of the treatment of Palestinians by Israel, or the Rohingya by Myanmar. No condemnation of all the Islands the US has annexed to form military bases, over a dozen.

Why is it if China does it, it is considered aggressive, colonisation

Because they have other nefarious ideas for Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines, the US

but when the US does it all is OK? Again,

The US is not trying to eradicate its own citizens or claim that parts of the Pacific belongs to them, the US is not manipulating the dollar and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Japan is still under US occupation, its foreign policy is totally controlled by Washington. Again, and rightly, we get condemnation of Chinese treatment of Tibet, the Uighur and HK but no condemnation of the treatment of Palestinians by Israel,

What? Israel can take care of itself, totally two different realities.

or the Rohingya by Myanmar. No condemnation of all the Islands the US has annexed to form military bases, over a dozen.

I see, so we should just allow ourselves to be sitting ducks around Russian hostility.

Why don't these. Hines Warships stay in their own sailing areas?
