I'll bet Abe's staff is working overtime behind the scenes to make these "meetings" happen. Again, it's not so much about the content, but the fact that Abe needs Trump to help keep the cronyism scandals off the front page.

Meeting with him, and all the pre-meeting and post meeting over-hype, should last for at least a month of headlines!

Without accepting trumpos economic terms, abe might as well stay home and lick his wounds. Ships already sailed. He had his chance and screwed up. Can't start crying over spilt milk now.

Abe's handling of foreign affairs is benefiting Japan greatly. A strong tie with U.S. is holding down China's aggressiveness to Japan and weakening anti-Japan policy of South Korea.

I agree 100 percent with Schopenhauer. PM Abe has really shown his strong leadership in this issue, Summits are his strong point. I cant imagine Japanese opposition leaders being able to hold such serious world Summits.

More Summits with Trump can only be a good thing, finalize the return of imprisoned Japanese, meanwhile the planning goes on for PM Abe-Kim san Summit. I hope it will be 1-2 weeks after Trump one.

If "talking" is a measure of being a "strong leader" then you just may be on to something!

I for one would like to see him actually accomplish something before shooting off his mouth again!

Beggars can't be choosers. That says a lot about Abe.

All this trouble just because Kim Jong want a McDonald's and Donald said no.

Japan, for its part, will dispatch a liaison team to Singapore to collect information about the summit.

At the forefront of relevancy.

Empty suit Shinzo and the bankrupt orange fraud, who is shortly to be arrested for money laundering for the Russian mob. Who is paying for this farrago and what possible use could it be?

It seems that Trump wants to ask Abe about more information of Kim's regime on whether Trump really can trust Kim's promise or not. Trump doesnt know much about Kim but Abe knows well.

These can’t get enough of their hand shaking and golfing!

More good news for now.

I won’t be optimistic till things actually happen, but talks are better than saber rattling.

Yeah, but Abe never got a single kiss from Trump, unlike Macron. Oh wait, but Abe has been kissing Trump.

Golf for all, air miles for abe, opps, forgot he has two private jumbo jets...they will both get a nobel peace prize, the reneg and turn another part of the world into disarray.

Mr.Abe remember to ask Mr.Trump to do more for those miserable and shattered abductee families. You need to shed more tears from your eyes that will brought your appeal very convincing!

From the column: "Abe also hopes to reaffirm the need to press Pyongyang to abandon its weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons, and missiles of all ranges, in a complete, verifiable and irreversible way," ---PM Abe is endlessly saying the same and I'm tired of that same matter repeated. NK wants to talk a balance of weapons in confrontation to finally pursue complete denuclearization, I think that's fair even that I know NK has tricky ways they used in the past. And much more Abe is repeatedly saying about the abductees, where N Korean media say Japanese abduction issue already resolved. How much does he need to repeat the same matter? If I'm Abe I'll try to speak how much Japan is a peaceful country but strong enough to protect itself. Power for peaceful wisdom, and never force to threaten others.

What a joke, Trump has been in touch with Moon just about as much as Abe, and if you think for a moment that Abe "knows" Kim better than Trump you really must be barking mad.

What exactly is a liason team?

Mr. Trump is only interested in starting the FTA negotiations with Japan and use this trophy for the Republican campaign this year for Senate.

What this news item boils down to is that the G7 will talk to each other in Canada and that Abes foremost concern is the 80ths abduction issue.

Perhaps Kim should visit Iran first to study what will happen. Unfortuatlly he can’t visit Sadam or Gadaffi.

I'm sure US would demand Japan to pay NK huge money again.  US and Koreas are pals.  But Japan should refuse this time.
