Statistics from 1000 chosen people?

There's no way in heck that this miniscule number represents all Japanese opinion on Abe. Guaranteed if numbers were much higher, his approval rating will be one of his lowest ever!

The term limit is on the party not the Parliament. Since it's a Parliament, he can continue to be PM as long as they put him in there. In effectively a one-party state though what is democracy?

I hope all this popularlty doesn't go to his head!

You should never trust polls. In my country Spain, we say one sentence: the only real poll is the elections.
And in the last elections Abe party won. Whether we like it or not.
Matt Hartwell
Why is it a one party state?
Its up to other parties to get their act together.
Unless opponents provide better policies than Abe that get the support of the majority or commits some sort of treasonous crime, he should stay in their for as long as he wants or until a better leader, more popular leader emerges.
At least Japan can plan long term with such stability.
Australian governments can't plan beyond the next 4 years. Only in defense.

Do you know what you are talking about? This was not an election that all Japanese people participated in, only rank and file, selected LDP members, roughly 10 from each prefecture, and LDP members of the Diet, both upper and lower house.
If was a party election, nothing more, nothing less.

....and does the popularity quotient amongst the Japanese public make a blind bit of difference? it goes up, it goes down, and up, and down, and up, and.............
Alexandre T. Ishii
The support rate for Abe is a mere elevator system of now and then, of ups and downs, that will continue if not collapsed the machine. LDP people are manipulated bots playing roller coaster for every shifts the goverment does. Well, at last don't cry for me, Japan!

Doesn't matter if it's 20%, people will just vote in the LDP again because that's what they're told to do, and they obey. It's a wonder Japan is even called a democracy

I'm sure the people living in China who have zero say in their government and a leader for life would completely disagree with you.

Japanese have a say in their governance? Chinese would spot the appointment for lifer faster

Yubaru.
If you're talking about this week's election. I completely agree with you. It was just a PLD media circus of a vote among themselves, excluding the rest of Japanese citizens. It was just a party act.

Calling Japan a flawed democracy or a pseudo-democracy wouldn't have the same nice-sounding ring to it.
