@itsonly: Don't stop writing. If Abe gets sick again,, Kishida is on line.

@itsonly: I hope LDP and Abe info collectors will weigh heavy on your idea. I only thought of Hosokawa if Abe wants to retire. But he seems to be stuck helping earthquake ruined Kumamoto.

Hi toshiko, My suggestion, Akira Amari, the former economy minister, a skilled negotiator and a reformer. A proven track record to tackle ground up economic reform. There is also a place for Tomomi Inada returning to the position where Tomomi Inada was performing a valuable service as Minister of Administrative Reform.

Fumio Kishida would also return to the role of Minister of State for Regulatory Reform however with increased authority to effect rapid change. There will also be a return to front line politics for former Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Yūko Obuchi.

Improved approval ratings is from 1000 people chosen by a right wing newspaper. If he lost to maihara he would be the laughing stock of the world.

What does a snap election mean in a one party state?

@David: Are you recommending you?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Why can't you recommend someone instead of only bashing Abe?

Okay, some of the people I think could be a better PM than Abe:

Piko Taro

Any member of AKB-48 (they're just as brain dead, but at least they're genki about it!)

For that point, how about Onii-san and Onee-san from Okaasantoissho? They'll even have half their cabinet pre-made for them!

The nice old lady who sells roasted sweet potatoes outside train stations? Just pick one, they're on the whole better than Abe.

Asada Mao. Now that she's retired from figure skating, she needs a job anyway.

Why not? there is no opposition - why not make it clear that Abe is the only realistic choice.

toshiko: "About N Korea, it changed the route of missile route to Guam. And both failed. "

You have a funny idea of "failed", and yes, Abe has a very big mouth.

"it seems Abe guided Japan is the only hope to simmer N Korea."

Wrong. He is the one most likely to start war... which it sounds like you want.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

I don't think LDP will wait Trump visit. LDP don't want to lose election.

About N Korea, it changed the route of missile route to Guam. And both failed. Japan has APC3 installed in four prefectures and announced AASHORE APC3 anywhere will work. Abe does not have a big mouth but it seems Abe guided Japan is the only hope to simmer N Korea.

Opposition party coalition will not work at all. Because of N Korea, Japan Communist Party will crumble. And every time someone mention Nippon Kaigi, even it is not a registered political party, the membership increase.

Snap election will ensure LDP win. This means Abe will be PM for a while. No one here recommends who they like to be next pm. So,, Abe's name you will hear at least a few more years.

If ever there was a time Japan needs a coherent opposition party to challenge, question Abe san and his ruling LDP government, to frankly hold them accountable for numerous economic policy failures or to fulfil any of the pledges or promises to reform, health care, education, agriculture, or simply to provide day-care it now or never.

If so then I can't but hope it works as well for Abe as it apparently did for May.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Jump on that horse while it's bolting Abe! The tensions with the DPRK have put him in the limelight and calling a snap election is probably a good idea for him. It's a bad idea for Japan, but good for him.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Hmmm? Snap election? 50% approval rating? opposition is disarray? Now where have I seen this kind of optimism before? Oh yes back in May in the UK! Just because your popular now doesn't mean that come polling day the public will vote for you.

""If we have a snap election now, we need to explain it to the public..."

No, you mean you need to SPIN it to the public. Anyone with a brain knows Abe is going to call a snap election while tensions with NK are peak, and while the opposition is busy splitting up, so that he can claim it is a mandate for him to stay on in power and change the Constitution. This is the new China, after all.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Time for a person with intelligence and charisma to step up and run the opposition party. It can be done!

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Of course while NK is a threat no one will change governments. I wish Abe would just get another chronic case of diarrhea and have to step down again.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Call it any time there is no opposition LDP now known as Nippon Kaigi have been running the country for 70 + years not going to change now. They have members in key positions making governance impossible for anyone but their own. It's truly sad to see so many nice people being led by a nationalist group who's intellect is a birth right and a paper from a university saying they have been educated..ha ha raise the bar please.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

"If we have a snap election now, we need to explain it to the public,

Because if we wait any longer, the threat from North Korea might subside and our incompetant muppet of a leader might get himself embroiled in another scandal which means that we won't have a chance of winning.

There. Explained it for you.
